Windows 11 lags like shit on a laptop with an Intel i7 and an Nvidia mx130. Nintendo switch is basically the weakest handheld device on the market.

Nintendo never hid this. The specs showed a Tegra X1 when Switch was released. It was always public knowledge that Switch is an Ouya with an ecosystem and released games.

None of your post is new but it’s like you want to drum up outrage that a company used easily available hardware that didn’t require custom hardware like Playstation or Xbox (which SHARE nearly identical AMD chipsets!)

Why get mad at the hardware choice for an 8 year old console?

Because they wont make a new one that is long overdue! And they shit on OSS projects like citra while not making anything new games that are worth playing.

I get old consoles are gonna use old chips, but thats a better reason to allow preservation of old games and the fact that nintendo still keeps porting games to this dead horse is unfathomable. 30fps is not playable for multible titles. Especially for FPS shooters

They also hate there community! Many people have made fan projects or youtube videos playing old modifide nintendo games and nintendo hits them with a DMCA claim or a takedown. It dumb you cant even buy any old games from them like mario kart double dash. So why does it matter that people do with a game that nintendo isnt profiting from!

And i dont understand why you even bother with bringing up my posting history, lots of people dont post on lemmy. Nor does the date of my last post add relivance to the topic at hand.

The switch has the worst graphics I’ve seen on a handheld. My kid has it and the games look like trash compared to my ps4, pc and even the steam deck.

Exactly, it’s 7 years old, so my argument stands. The switch is trash because it is very old and has weak graphics.

Yup, that’s even worse. Old games are just garbage. You can be as sarcastic as you’d like, very few games were actually good, the rest are just trash. People love that shit just because of nostalgia, shit was/is horrendous. Lmfao

              @penquin

The NES has different release dates depending on whom you chose to believe. Still, everyone can agree it was released by 1985.

Compared to the Switch, the NES is decades older, and drastically more limited graphics.

And yet, the NES is amazing. So your arguement of “old and weak graphics” can go suck an egg.

It’s all about how fun the games are. Which is why PS5/PS4/PS3/PS2 and PS1 and all the XBoxs can all bow down to Nintendo.

Their games suck ass. Only fun game they have is Mario. That’s about it. The Playstation collection and Xbox run circles around the Nintendo garbage.

Spoken like someone who’s never played a Zelda game. That being said, probably just play it on an emulator unless you like the portability aspect

Edit: But seriously, Nintendo is one of the only publishers that hasn’t ruined their games with live service micro transactions and battle passes, and one of the only publishers that hasn’t ruined their long standing IPs yet (Pokémon excluded, but that technically isn’t owned completely by Nintendo). I don’t exactly like Nintendo as a company but I have to respect that they haven’t been cash grabbing in the same way other publishers have.

You must not have seen a lot of handhelds then. The Switch is the most powerful portable console ever… And honestly the first party games look and run pretty great for the price.

That does bring up the question of if the Steam Deck counts as a handheld console or not. Going off the wikipedia descriptions of game consoles and handheld consoles, I think it probably counts.

Yeah I thought about it but IMO the Deck is a PC, as it runs a PC OS, games and software out of the box.

The most powerful portable console ever

Yea because no one besides nintendo makes any portable consoles anymore. That’s like Apple saying “It’s the best iPhone we ever made”, every time they introduce a new one…

And it’s not even necessarily true, if you count the steamdeck as a console, which one might.

And still, the hardware of the switch was already obsolete when it launched. The Tegra X1‘s only redeeming quality is a comparatively high graphics performance compared to most off the shelf mobile SoC, but even it is slow compared to an iPhone 11 or heck a 250€ tablet with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 blows the switch out of the water, performance wise. You’ll even get more memory, more storage, etc.

That isn’t to say, the switch is bad. The performance is adequate for the typical Nintendo games but you can’t tell me the recent pokemon games or Zelda TodK run great, barely hitting 30fps. Which is not surprising, considering most midrange mobile phones are quicker by now and the switch is stuck with a graphics chip that most closely compares to a GTX 830M. A 5 generations and 10 years old graphics chip that wasn’t even fast when it was new.

And back to the steamdeck again: while it is a bit more expensive than a switch, it’s still a damn good deal, especially on the used market and even able to emulate switch games with better performance than the switch itself. And, unlike the switch, it is actually able to play modern games fairly well, while the switch either runs them at subpar quality or only via streaming.

I was responding to the claim that the switch “has the worst graphics on a handheld”, which is obviously wrong.

I think you might know this, but a hacked Switch can be overclocked (to both safe and unsafe values) and you can pretty much fix most of the bad performing games (you can’t fix ass broken games such as Batman Arkham Knight though).

So yeah, still many games will look and behave better somewhere else, but OC the Switch can lead you to good results, if you have any over there and wanna give it a try (newer models require hardmod, which sucks, but once this annoyance is sorted out, a new true era will begin for the Switch lol).

Oh yeah, since Nintendo fucked us over so much with the hardware (especially on the Oled version), just hack it to run much hotter than usual, great idea!!

Safe values will hardly make any significant temps increase, and still give you a better experience.

What is wrong with the OLED version BTW?

I have the original Switch and that thing can be hacked with a paperclip lol and after many years of usage and OC my battery and unit still performs well, according to some homebrew tools the battery is like at 90% of its lifespan, granted most of its usage is docked, but the “additional heat” is there yet.

          Worse than the gameboy?

But seriously. Graphics are nice, but without good gameplay, i’m just watching a movie.

You can have all the fancy graphics you want, but they dont make games good. They just enhance games. If the game is boring, then all the graphics in the world won’t save it.

The switch is fun to tinker with if you have a hackable one. I wrote a guide on XDA on how to install Android on a Switch. I didn’t actually do any of the hard work to port anything or anything technical, just wrote the guide. I didn’t expect it to become like the guide but it did. I saw it used by Linus Tech Tips once.

I kinda felt bad for never updating it. I dunno if it still is up to date enough to still be useful.
