I don’t like the reasons why people get banned here. Just for expressing a political view or saying that they eat meat. I may come back when there is a more welcoming instance with active users. So long.

The vegan community is 100% allowed to ban carnists. It bothers you that vegans are allowed to have a space of our own?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t believe anyone has been site-banned for any of that. The bans that I see in the modlog are for things like trolling, harassment, slurs, racism, etc. I would expect any decent instance to prohibit such behavior.

I know the vegan community has a strict policy against non-vegans or omni-apologia but I am not aware of anyone being site-banned for that.

It looks like “modlog” in the sidebar takes you to the modlog for that specific community. Maybe that’s where the confusion arose?

What situation are you referring to exactly? you can link some evidence about it. Consider that on Reddit from those who have told me they do much worse for little 🤣

I think they might be referring to the Julianus ban, who posted about their ban recently, which is the only one I think should maybe have been handled differently, but I don’t know where the Belgium the vegan part comes from.

They really do on reddit (much worse for little), i was banned from a sub of 200k members for trying to have a discourse with some religious nationalists (I’m not one of them, and the sub was filled with them), where even the nationalists appreciated the conversation from my side. There was no name calling, no slurs, no hate, just conversations between people from different sides, and the mods still banned me without any reason. Mind you I wasn’t even the top comment there, just on the bottom most part of a post. Sorry for the rant i just wanted to vent this out lol

Yes. Some day we will realise our utopia: a grand federation of echo-chambers and circle-jerks…

Edit: Jokes aside… I can see the merit in the idea of an instance becoming more picky in who it hosts as a member or community (imagine: a non-vegan on a vegan instance) but maybe as mentioned elsewhere it could be done with a little more guidance like “We don’t think you and this instance are a good fit. Please migrate.”.

Migration features would be very useful to facilitate this process.

I suppose a comment can be deleted or a user can be banned depending on who manages and moderates each community within an instance, apart from the rules (if any) that they establish in each case. It would be a problem of certain communities, which in others does not appear.

In regard to meat eating, I presume that the case would be given in a vegan thematic community, possibly with comments in an unconstructive attitude or out of context.

There can be the case that a community exists as a propagandistic platform in which no debate with discordant positions is allowed. It’s probably not the best practice, but there it is. You can also negatively evaluate publications, try to create new post introducing and argumenting your disconformity, or even disagree by not participating or blocking the community.

I think there are other communities that are not like this for now. There is also the option to participate in other instances or to host your own.
