I used Netflix to binge entire series every now and then (voyager/TNG/ds9, voyager especially c:) but since they raised prices I’ve been sailing the seas

It’s 5am and I usually don’t get up this early but my body is just not cooperating these days and I can’t sleep … nor can I work … nor can I really move much … it’s really frustrating because I can actually still lift about a hundred pounds and move heavy things … but about 10 percent of my arm movements are pure agony. Sitting at my desk is the best thing right now … and the only benefit is in being able to binge watch Star Trek.

It’s allowed me to watch the first season of Discovery … and just like the crew, my spore drive broke down … but I haven’t been able to find my way back to my universe yet.

If being sick or unwell or having a bad day has any benefit … it’s that it allows you time to go through Star Trek … it is definitely a place of comfort.

    spoiler

Great show but I was bit disturbed that they introduced Stamet’s partner Culber and then suddenly just killed him off … I thought it was a great side story but to just drop it off like that was a bit stupid I thought.

Ive been sick all weekend, and had to call out today from work. I was just wondering what i was going to do today since ive exhausted my normal entertainment already this weekend. You’ve inspired me to start up a rewatch. Now, I just have to decide which series.

I hope you start to feel better soon! It sucks when our bodies betray us.

I haven’t felt this bad in a long time … and it was weird too because it just happened without warning. It’s arthritic disease (yes I’m older, not ancient but old in my late 40s). Everything else is fine, lungs, heart, brain, muscles, gastro, blood … it just suddenly attacked my shoulders now I can barely lift my arms … I can rotate them about 80 percent without problems but when I touch that 20 percent, it’s like someone took a baseball bat to my shoulder. It’s the kind of pain that just makes you feel sick … and it lingers and makes you miserable.

Talking about it helps and makes me forget it for a while … which is why I should thank you for the distraction.

Find a nice comfortable chair, bed or position to be in, wear some light clothes, keep the thermostat at a nice temperature and relax. Get up and stretch once in a while and drink lots of liquids. Watch your shows with a headset and stay in your own world for a bit while you recover.

I hope you are doing better as well.

I seriously hope things start turning around for you soon, my friend. If I can call you that. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this when you don’t deserve it. If you ever need someone to talk to or want someone to vent to, I’m here buddy. I’d hug but I don’t wanna hurt your arms further.

Also as for the spoiler (I can’t use the tags on my app for whatever reason) yes. That was an insane thing to do and no one liked it. However I cannot say anything about it without spoiling stuff for you. Just trust me when I say that things get better.

Thanks for that … but just diving into the meme communities is a great distraction too. Yesterday was probably the first time in a long time that I had just nothing but a Trek Day … watched almost all of season one in one shot and even rewatched Star Trek First Contact. Between all the shows, movies and Risa and in chatting with good people like you, it’s definitely making things better.

I think you can just manually type in the app the spoiler tags by inputting the following:

type the text you want to hide here

I hope the memes keep the good vibes going then, buddy.

Also yeah I could type them out but I am insanely lazy and eepy.

The memes have lots of good vibes and they make this dark world a bit brighter and these failing bodies more hopeful

I just got introduced to Captain Pike and you are right … the guy is as dashing as you make him out to be. They almost went a bit too overboard with him because it edges towards having a Ken doll on a starship. I’m may be straight but that rugged manly look and that head of hair is definitely making me forget my pain for a while.

Ohhhhh yeah. Pike is one gloriously attractive man. Yet he also has the confidence and heart to back it up. Picard was always my Captain, hell he was my first, but Pike walked up and just dropkicked Picard out of the chair. Strange New Worlds only elaborated on that. Amazingly good looking man while being a truly amazing man as well. He’s the whole package.

Pike … can … only … be … outdone … by … (dramatically sits down) … one of the … greatest … captains … of … all time.

Kirk has plenty of flaws both in the Star Trek universe and in real life as William Shatner … but he was the first … and that acting style and character of the original James Tiberius Kirk will stick with me forever.

                  but he was the first

AHA! THAT’S WHERE YOU’RE WRONG! PIKE WAS! HE WINS!

But yeah, I don’t blame you. Kirk is pretty great lol

If you really want to get the full idea of what Kirk as a captain is like, dive into the old paperback novels. He has a presence of command that many good writers have expanded on, and there’s a reason he’s a legend among the many Starfleet commanders. Although I have a head canon that anyone getting to the point of captaining a starship has similar awesomeness in their character that can face just about anything head on. A 23rd/24th century version of the steely-eyed missile man.

Which puts a new light on the various captains in all the series that “failed” in some way. Decker and the rest. They were Kirk level, and what they went through still broke them.

It would’ve been somewhat before its time, but I wonder if this episode would’ve been more interesting with what it was saying about human relationships if Data hadn’t immediately installed “hammiest Honeymooners program” immediately upon entering one.

I kinda like how the US OTA channel H&I airs an episode of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT six nights a week. 5 hours of Star Trek almost every night is pretty awesome. They just progress through each show in release order, until they finish all the seasons and loop back to start over again.

I feel this so hard. In a few hours I am going to have to pawn everything of value I own but my PC and phone. I am on season three of TNG of coping.
