Due to federated nature of Lemmy/Kbin, your block list will be available publicly (at least readable to random 3rd party servers) in order to implement this. Some people already not comfortable that their downvotes are not private, and may also freak out if their know their block list are not private as well. Not sure if mastodon also have issue or not though.
As if everyone here isn’t already using alts to upvote themselves and downvote others despite the fact that everyone can see you doing it.
It doesn’t matter if some people are uncomfortable. The rest of us are uncomfortable at the fact that blocking as it is now only helps enemies and doesn’t hurt them.
I’d rather they added some kind of feature to moderator tools to track people who frequently respond to users that have blocked them. The way Reddit handles blocks is really disruptive and often abused by spammers and others.
On the Internet you’re not arguing to convince that person you’re arguing with.
You should argue to challenge the statements that person made for other people that will read the thread so those opinions are not out there without any counterargumentsThat’s basically the game the elites want us to play.
The societal problems are so preposterous and button-click simple to solve for a government as powerful as ours, there’s no other logical explanation.
They want our eyes off the ball. That much is clear.
Seems like you lost your tinfoil-hat over there
All I see is yours. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The small sarcasm on the left cracks me up for some reason
In an Internet argument, it usually takes like 2-3 replies in to figure out if a person is arguing in good or bad faith.
If they are arguing in bad faith, there is no reason not to block them, they are wasting your time
Addendum to that: write a post explaining to everyone else how and why they’re arguing in bad faith, then block them. It’s the most effective way to curb their bullshit.
That’s assuming blocking works though, which it doesn’t on Lemmy.
Lemmy is a piece of shit.
It can be SO tempting to reply to someone who’s being a jerk, but it’s very rarely worth it. I restrain myself because nobody “wins” an argument online. It’s just two bickering losers.
Wrestling with pigs and all that.
I’ve literally changed my position on important matters due to patient and considerate discussions that occured entirely on the Internet (Facebook of all places, if you can believe it). But yeah, with a jerk acting as a troll, that’s not going to happen, no matter how much you might wish for it.
I used to be proud of how I never blocked anybody.
Now I don’t look back:-).
Live and learn.
I want to disagree but…
I do disagree. Lol. I don’t want peace. I want problems, always. sarcasm
No thank you.
Peace is boring. I want people’s messy ugly opinions about stupid shit that doesn’t matter. It gets me out of bed in the morning
The guy is/was banging his granddaughter, he may know something about not giving a fuck.
Gonna need a source here
I can’t find anything definitive. The guy that murdered his grand daughter claims that she told him: https://people.com/crime/morgan-freeman-sex-with-granddaughter-murder-suspect-claims/
That’s a yikes statement, in and of itself. I see allegations and vehement denials. I think that’s the last thing I’m gonna google for tonight. Godspeed stranger!
A murderer throws out “nuh uh I was too high to be guilty of this murder I obviously committed and anyways the victim’s famous grandparent abused them” doesn’t exactly scream credible.
Do like the guy in the photo and fall asleep in the middle of conversations. Nobody will argue with you.
Whats Samuel L Jackson got to do with this
Not a damn thing, motherfucker.
But that’s ok, cause that’s James Earl Jones, not Sam Jackson.
I dont block people. I see how it’s useful and help deal with trolls, but it gives people the easy path out of discussion and actually thinking about something.
It gets to a point where you just block anyone who disagrees with you and leads to the bubble life.
For me, i think that all ideas, even the bad ones, should have a voice. They should have a place in the world, hearing both good and bad ideas can help to separate them and identify people who srgue in bad faith.
Although that decision came from spending time fruitlessly arguing with people on the site that shall not be named.
Nope. Block them.
There’s an unending supply of morons with insane opinions. You are not going to run out.
Yeah, that doesn’t bother me. But that’s my opinion. If you dont like it, i guess you can block me? 😜
I can’t tell if they deliberately put a comma there in order to change the meaning of the phrase.
Nah, fuck that. Arguing with total strangers on the internet gives me life. All that bourbon has to be put to use somehow
