I come to lemmy as a means of entertainment, blocking people from posting Trump/musk articles from shitty sources like Newsweek isn’t going to change how informed I am, it’s just going to continue being entertainment.

You can understand the issues without having them shoved in your face. Additionally, adventurism doesn’t have that great of a track record for destroying systems; one of the splits between the Bolsheviks and the SRs and other factions was their analysis of the effects of the previous half century of random assassinations of government officials, including the Tsar. This is what i did. I used to depend on my feed to get major news but decided to do that elsewhere. Now my feed is just stuff that entertains.

This is the way. Subscribe to the stuff you care about, and ignore the rest. Browsing “all” from time to time should be enough as long as you sort by top of the week or something like that.

This way, you’re in charge. You get to control how much you get exposed to potentially harmful stuff.

I’ve gotten hate just from being on .world, can you elaborate on the decentralization bit? Do you mean just kind of spreading people out instead of being on one of the larger instances in this case?

So far, the filter words “Trump, musk, Elon, Tesla, Teslas, maga” have done wonders. I can still see news, even political news, but instead of 9 out of 10 of the visible posts being about those two fuckoffs, it’s around 1 in 50, maybe 100, which will still keep me informed enough.

As for the blocking mechanisms, I really don’t have anything on that, I haven’t ran into that issue, but I’ve successfully avoided other users by blocking them. It may warrant another post to find out more if it means enough to you.
