Vladimir Putin has congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US election, and expressed admiration for the way Trump reacted to an assassination attempt during the campaign. He also said he was ready for dialogue with Trump, a prospect which will cause disquiet in Kyiv and many other European capitals.
Putin gave his first public remarks on Trump’s win on Thursday evening during a discussion forum in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. His words seemed calibrated to appeal to the president-elect’s well-documented fondness for flattery.
. . .
Putin also claimed Trump had been “hounded by all sides” during the campaign, another line that is likely to resonate well with Trump, and offered his congratulations on the victory. He highlighted Trump’s remarks on Ukraine and Russia. “What was said about the desire to restore relations with Russia, to bring about the end of the Ukrainian crisis in my opinion this deserves attention at least,” said Putin.
It’s wild how unpopular peace in Ukraine is among liberals.
We tried appeasement of a dictator in 1939 and it didn’t help. But I’m sure it’ll work this time.
And in 1991…
1991? When the US backed Yeltsin’s coup, causing the breakup of the USSR, the greatest non-war-related humanitarian disaster of the 20th century, and paved the way for Putin to come to power?
Bruh
With them it’salways the fault of the USA. Almost funny :-/
If you think that the US wasn’t heavily involved in the final act of the Cold War then you don’t understand history or geopolitics and are not a serious person to be consulted on these matters.
So funny you mentioned this…I actually did a paper twenty year ago in college about the fall of Russia and the truth is, the CIA was using (I think the term is) " Black Propaganda" to inform themselves. Black Propaganda was essentially incorrect old disinformation distributed by the CIA.
They were caught with their pants down in many ways. They may have aided at the end but the CIA was much more off guard than one would think.
Edit: my sources were literally declassified documents the CIA released. I got them from the college library. I’m sure libraries will be next to be gone
We’d love peace there, like it was before Russia invaded. They should immediately withdraw all their troops so peace resumes. Great idea.

By “Civil War” I think you meant to say “Russian Occupation of Crimea”
No, I’m not talking about the Russian occupation of Crimea, if you weren’t following the news back then, you can filter google news by year.

Peace at the cost of giving up their land to invaders? Are you really this stupid or just straight up evil?

How do you know my stance on Palestine?
I’m against all these types of behaviours. All you idiots have is whataboutism.

I don’t know what the other guy said but the “gEnOcIdE” people at least came out to vote. Now we have Trump in office so I sure hope the high horse was worth it.
He said:
It’s just below if you scroll like 5 cm.
And I also doubt the russian shills voted in the american election.

Alright, feel free to tell us how to achieve a permanent peace there.
Hint: In 2014, we got a peace agreement in Ukraine and now, we have war. So, what should we do differently this time? How can we make sure that Putler doesn’t just fill up the army for 3 years in a “peace” phase and start the next attack afterwards??
“If you write Russia a blank check there will be just a couple of days of slaughter then no one else needs to die”
Minsk II agreement was never enforced, they were fighting literally until the day of the invasion.
But a stable peace would require the Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine to go to Russia or an independent state, both the Russian and Ukrainian paramilitaries that started this to be disarmed and prosecuted for war crimes.
I don’t see how your suggestion solves the problem at all… Maybe, that’s a start…
Putin made clear multiple times that we wants the whole Ukraine. Serious question to you: How do we pretend this from happening?
The only way for a stable peace that I can imagine is: The remaining area of Ukraine gets full protection by NATO. Otherwise, Putin will try it again.
Would you give up your country for peace? By peace I mean living in a nearly totalitarian state where you could go to prison for liking something on social media that the government doesn’t like. And then you would be sent to the front to fight in another war with a neighboring country, just like they did with men from occupied areas in 2014.
But may we all count ourselves lucky that the
CzechoslovakianCrimean Problem has been settled. The purpose of the western allies handing Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany and Poland was to enable Hitler and Poland to go after their stated enemy, the USSR.
This is why none of the western powers all broke or were unwilling to sign mutual defense pacts with the USSR, and France and the UK tried to join the winter war on the side of the axis, but were only stopped by Sweden denying them passage.
It does not apply here at all.
