That was a damn fine rant that I wish a lot more people would see. Thank you for speaking your mind about it and…whatever it’s worth, I’m sorry you have to try an exist alongside these knuckle-dragging hate-mongers.

Good luck to everyone affected. Please stay safe.
It’s there with a long press. I missed it too at first.

That’s the one. May your day be brighter with more kittens while doomscrolling the news.
I had a similar one but for the former president. I still have it installed and it always confuses me for a second until I remember it.
Trance/House bedroom DJ here. I was never apart of any of the communities over on reddit because I’ve found if you really love something, don’t join any fan sites for it. People usually get annoyingly negative about something they supposedly love.
But, if a new community that was DJ based popped up on Lemmy, I’m pretty sure I’d join it.
I’ve recently become obsessed with the Italian power metal band Ancient Bards. They have four albums out and a new one in the works. There hasn’t been any real updates in awhile, but hopefully it’s still planned to release this year.
I’ve been testing out other search engines and have currently landed on Brave Search. Every single time you search, there’s a big block of threads from reddit near the top of the search results. It’s not been easy to stay away.
Never had the privilege of writing by hand. I got the ol’ left-handed curse that smears anything written to paper.
All my prep work is done through a combination of Joplin and Obsidian while the actual manuscript is written in MarkText.
If you couldn’t tell, I really like the Markdown format.
Every time news about Vanilla comes out I get more and more excited. With immutable OSs starting to gain traction, they all feel a bit samey. Vanilla seems like a totally different beast. It feels new and exciting; something that’s really shaking up the Linux space.
Admittedly, I’m not the most technically savvy about these kinds of things so I might be wrong.
Regardless, I’ll keep watching with great interest.
Spamming and being annoying won’t really help anything. If anything it could push people away. I’d suggest being a bit more tactful about where you try and help push more people here.
I wouldn’t mind trying to get into writing poetry, but the few times I’ve looked into it, various communities seemed very gatekeepy so I haven’t really pressed too hard for it. In my fiction writing, I’m beyond horrible at description, and I think learning to use the more colorful language you find in poetry would be a big help to me.
Since there’s just the two of us right now, my wife and I are playing a co-op Ironsworn. It’s been pretty fun but a bit tough at times since you have to think up your own story. The oracles help, but sometimes we get stuck.
We’re pretty new to it all so we just chalk it up to inexperience. I’m sure it’ll get better.
Hey hey. I’m Tree and I’m an addict…wait wrong group.
I am one of the many with a severe deficit of attention. I look forward to relating way too hard to many of the things that will be brought up here.
I hope this becomes a very supportive and therapeutic place to complain or laugh at our various maladies. I’m looking forward to it.
Baseball is one of my two true loves in the world. It’s the best time of year. The games, deep dives into stats and analytics, watching highlights, and the general weirdness that’s so common in the game makes for entertainment that really engages my adhd brain.
Side note, one really neat thing is this YouTube channel that has old radio broadcasts of games as far back as the 1930s. You can listen to a game that Babe Ruth played in. It’s great.

I think sports is something that will be necessary at some point. One of my few regrets about leaving the old site is my loss of the baseball community, not to mention the individual team subs as well.
I only follow baseball but tons of others follow many more than that.
Long time Joey for Reddit user and the thought of having to experience reddit without it is not something I’m willing to do. I got over a decade from the site, and despite never spending any money there, I’ve gotten my money’s worth.
Conservative ideology of maybe twenty years ago would likely have a lot better chance at meaningful discussion as opposed to right now. At this time, the political right in the US have thrown full-throated support for policies that many people (rightfully) feel are abhorrent.
For less repugnant topics, say, fiscal responsibility, that one is also a tough one to talk about seeing as the right is trying to gut every social program they can think of while doing all they can to cut taxes for the rich.
I know there are sane conservatives out there, but until that party steers their ship away from bigotry, hatred, and destroying the middle and lower class, you’ll probably not find a lot of discussion. Which is a shame because I think we do need two strong parties with differing viewpoints, but when the other viewpoint is rampant discrimination and further enriching the wealthy.
