That one guy flew almost all the way back to Russia.

They can’t be too far away from the frontline if they are releasing them that close to the ground even if they have a bit of upward momentum (you can tell how heavy those things are though in the way they don’t continue flying up into the sky much when they are released), I can’t imagine more than a couple of kilometers? Maybe I am way off though.

It shows the confidence and bravery of these pilots though, they have to fly knapp-of-the-earth, then do essentially a shot-putt with massive bombs up into the sky… and then IMMEDIATELY u-turn at a fairly low altitude.

It isn’t like they can rely too long on the same low altitude flight paths either…

Note that preceding these fighter-bombers coming into the area there was likely a forced overmatch of Ukrainian drones projected forward into the airspace providing the effective operational pressure to create a window of opportunity for the fighter-bomber to use. That is the thing about fastjets, they need an uncomprehensibly small window of time to do a massive amount of damage, and drone swarms are perfect for creating those short windows of opportunity.
