Instead of fixing the root causes of gang violence, Sweden is about to turn itself into a militarized surveillance state.

    Wonderful.

The protection cited in the article is for buildings. Alright? No one is becoming a militarized surveillance state over buildings being protected by the military.

This is a prime minister wanting to look strong in tough times, not a country becoming a surveillance state.

Ah yes, it’s far right populists that caused this and not the gangs who killed two people in shootings and another in an explosion in Stockholm just two days ago… lmao

And yeah, these are unintegrated migrants imported from 2015 onwards, who failed to integrate and now run massively violent, warring gangs that are currently responsible for an unprecedented amount of violent deaths in Sweden’s largest cities. Putting our heads in the sand regarding real issues for fear of being racist is what got us here in the first place.

Look at the data, and act, just as Sweden’s LEFT-WING government is CURRENTLY doing because the situation has now become untenable.

The system of integration for migrants failed in Sweden (as it was hardly even existent in the first place). That’s the systemic cause.

The acute symptom of this currently is gang violence. That said, the symptom is like a cancer that runs itself, the criminal systems underpinning gang violence are now established and you won’t get rid of them by being nice anymore.

So you have to fight both the symptoms and the causes… Which Sweden is beginning to do. Reinstating and hardening penalties for organized and violent crime to get rid of the acute symptoms, as well as stopping the inflow of non-European migrants to stop the cause.

The Swedish government didn’t say they’ll never take non-European migrants again, but it’s clear the whole system needs a huge overhaul.

3 people in 12 hours in one city was their last record. Gang-related killings have been steadily rising for years and they’ve currently reached a boiling point where dozens of people die every month just in Stockholm.

Their authority is very limited but in very specific cases the police can request help for things like terrorism and maybe hostage situations.

This is basically about the government discussing if they should and could expand the authority of the police to request help.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Sweden’s prime minister on Thursday said that he’s summoned the head of the military to discuss how the armed forces can help police deal with an unprecedented crime wave that has shocked the country with almost daily shootings and bombings.

Getting the military involved in crime-fighting would be a highly unusual step for Sweden, underscoring the severity of the gang violence that has claimed a dozen lives across the country this month, including teenagers and innocent bystanders.

It wasn’t immediately clear in what capacity the military would get involved, but previous proposals have focused on soldiers taking over protection duties from police to free up more resources for crime-fighting.

Three people were killed overnight in separate attacks with suspected links to criminal gangs, which often recruit teenagers in socially disadvantaged immigrant neighborhoods to carry out hits.

Sweden long stood out in Europe along with Germany for having liberal immigration policies and welcoming hundreds of thousands of asylum-seekers from the Middle East and Africa.

Kristersson said that he met with New York Mayor Eric Adams last week to learn from the city’s efforts to fight crime, including surveillance methods and weapon detection systems.

The original article contains 538 words, the summary contains 195 words. Saved 64%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Due to this incident the military was heavily limited in how they could help the police

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ådalen_shootings

Later the laws changed again to allow the police to get some help from the military but only in very specific cases where the police were the one in control of the military (the police could order the military what to do, and not the opposite).

I think they can help with transports and such but I don’t why that is needed.

If I remember correctly the government is trying to change the laws regarding this.

Saying that immigration is not part of the problem is laughable at this point. I’m also lefitist but jesus you can’t let that many in without at least trying to integrate them.

Also I can’t belive I’m defending the current government but they are not at fault for what’s going on. These issues have been a thing for years. One of the main reason for this is that discussing immigration policies have been mostly taboo. I’m very happy for living in Norway. We’ve been having these discussions for years and we have been open to strict immigration policies. You just can’t let whoever into your country.

Many other countries have liberal immigration policies and haven’t experienced these problems. Something seems to have gone uniquely wrong in Sweden. Gang membership in Sweden is comprised overwhelmingly of people from a handful of countries: Syria, Serbia, Bosnia, Albania and Iraq. Most immigrants to Sweden come from India for example, and don’t seem to cause problems. Nor do those from Poland or the UK.

It looks like a massive failure to vet individuals from a few nations … possibly out of a misplaced sensitivity to appearing racist.

Well, when you allow anybody regardless of papers or not seek asylum as refugee and then refusing to integrate them into understanding our laws, our culture, our language, and our society, bad things as outcome should be the expectes result. We got almost 1.3 million refugees in 10 years, in a country with 10 million inhabitants. Theyre clustered in parts without many native swedes, and many of them hate eachother due to the conflicts in their homeland. Many don’t identify as swedes, they never even got a chance to integrate into our society and most don’t even know for how much longer they’re allowed to stay. (super ineffective agency, some people have lived here for 10 years before they got fully processed).

There’s a reason why people here have started memeing about the names of people convicted of all these incredibly violent crimes, and it’s because it’s very rarely a nordic name. It’s a sad truth that’s grounded in unforgivably poor politics and immigration policies.

The far right party have grown from being a joke to being the 3rd biggest party because of it. The politics of past parties made the swedish far right into what it now is.
