Didn’t this already happen in Florida when DeSantis tried to get rid of immigrants and all the farmers there lost their shit over losing their work force?

Florida, Arizona, Alabama, Georgia. They all tried it, they all fucked around and found out but they never let facts stop them.

Who would have thunk that White Republicans are too soft for farm work.

Mass deportations of farm labour makes the price of domestically produced food skyrocket, then tariffs make the price of imported food prices skyrocket.

Good times are going to be had for sure. Hopefully their suffering will teach them, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up unfortunately

It’s like the guy married to a lady from South America waiting for her immigration papers voting for Trump: those “Trump-voting farmers” knew full well what their racehorse intended to do, yet they bet on him, he won, and now they’re bitching and moaning.

I dunno but… What in the name of all that’s holy is wrong in those people’s noggins??

Of course they would be, which is why they’re not going to happen.

The deportations serve three main purposes:

    1. They appeal to Trump’s racist base and further divisions between the people broadly.
    2. They establish precedents for the detention of whoever the Trump administration declares to be rightfully detained (which will certainly not be limited to, or even primarily, undocumented immigrants).
    3. They make the remaining undocumented immigrants just that much more desperate and willing to endure oppression.

To fulfill those purposes, there’s no need to deport all undocumented immigrants or even any really significant percentage of them. All that’s necessary is to make the deportations that will happen as merciless and vivid and well publicized as possible.

And once those purposes have been served, the program can be quietly moved out of the spotlight and American businesses can take advantage of the cheap labor provided by undocumented immigrants who are even more desperate than they were before Trump took office.

I don’t appreciate that people are still under the assumption that Trump cares about the success of America or is trying to preserve it.

The tariffs contradict all of the conclusions you just drew and so does the psychopaths he put in charge of the deportations and handed a blank check too.

Trump could hand over the US nuclear codes to Putin on live TV and people would still be making excuses.

he’d do it live on national TV, signing his name on the document, shaking hands with putin, then turn to the camera and outright say Sleepy Joe sold out America and his base would still rally around him

He should talk to the central CA farmers who just had this year’s irrigation water flushed down the toilet by the Army Corps of Engineers on drumpf’s order.

Oh no, soon farmers won’t have a giant surplus of cheap labor, thus driving wages higher! And since they’re all being affected, they’ll actually have competitive pricing!

I sound like a broken record, but y’all sound like the Democrats in the South in 1859. Y’all need to stop advocating for oppressing people.

Intentionally deciding to enforce normal human rights is different than suddenly causing disruption in the food supply and greatly increasing food prices.

Personally I think there was a lot we could have done with migrant worker visas to improve human rights while also ensuring enough farm labor, preventing disruption of the food supply, and providing a wider legal path to immigration

When the food supply depends on widespread abuses, enforcing those rights will always cause a disruption.

Tariffs increase the price of imported food. Less workers increase the price of homegrown food. Suggested sales tax to cover for income tax increases the price of all food. All of this will hurt the lower income families the most.

Should the immigrants in your country be treated better? Oh absolutely! But dragging them away from their lives and deporting them sure as shit isn’t the answer to stop oppression and I refuse to believe you’re so fucking stupid you don’t understand that

Legal immigrants? They’re already treated well. Illegal immigrants should be deported as soon as they’re found.

Don’t pretend like you aren’t trying to conflate the two, it’s incredibly obvious.
