Brilliant! One commenter also gets it:

Should be higher in the list. One of the only REAL alternatives to Reddit. Others are just other social networks or forums. It is open-source and has very similar features.

Those comments do make me feel pretty great :) . That. @nutomic@lemmy.ml and I could build something out in the open that tech wise at least, rivals a company with hundreds of devs and millions of dollars at their disposal, is a great achievement.

Conveniently, someone just asked for a Reddit alternative in /r/AlternativeTo. They would probably like to hear about this or something 😉

Does anyone know how the alternatives are ranked? There are multiple which have more likes than Lemmy, but are listed lower.

There are hearts and there are likes.

      Both are differents.

If I remember the likes are the most important ones.

The likes are specific of every alternative list and act like votes in Lemmy. You can give them when it asks you “is this a good alternative” or similar.

When I went over there and liked Lemmy, a pop-up appeared that asked something like “Is this the alternative you prefer the most?”. So maybe my like appears as a single like in the sum of likes, but weighs more towards pushing that particular alternative up in the rank.
