Well, whew! As a result of Reddit’s recent spark of genius, the number of users looking for a new home has been growing at quite a brisk pace. In the last 12 hours, over 30 new membership applications were received. This has never happened before in Sopuli’s short history. It’s a bit like what happened to Mastodon when Twitter had its own spark of genius. I’m surprised and also excited.

Anyway, welcome to new users! Feel free to check out Sopuli and Lemmy in general. If you have any questions, you should first check FAQ if the question has already been answered. A list of communities, both on Sopuli and on other instances, is conveniently displayed in Communities and here. If you are planning to create a new community for a topic, you should check there to see if one has already been created and if the topic is fitting for it.

No huh huh! Redditin viimeaikaisten neronleimauksien seurauksena uutta kotia etsiviä käyttäjiä on tullut varsin reippaalla tahdilla. Viimeisen 12 tunnin aikana tuli yli 30 uutta käyttäjähakemusta.

Anyone else having issues with the sign up page? A friend of mine is trying to sign up to sopuli but after they enter their details and click ‘sign up’ it just spins endlessly. I’m assuming it’s because a lot of people are trying to sign up now?

Haha actually they did. Generated a random one to sign up with. I’ll tell them to try again with a simpler one. Thanks for the help and this is a great community you have here!

Edit: out of curiosity, what is it about the long/complex password that messes it up?

I’m not a developer, but it has apparently something to do with the database. This same problem has popped up several times, and now I updated the FAQ.

I’ve seen this, too. Interestingly you may manage to make an account with a long password, but logging in with the password may or may not work.

A very odd bug. Why would there be such a small limit and didn’t anyone but users notice? Or maybe it only happens to some users.
