One could argue it already is - mainly on a soft power level. Now that Ursula has chopped the chains off the war chest we can get back the hard power as well. I feel very good about this, it’s rare to feel optimistic about the way your country and union is going…
OrloNorppatoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Freedom of speech for me but not for theeEnglish133·4 months ago“If you don’t like it you can leave” is such a shit argument that I keep hearing, the whole point of democracy is that if you don’t like it you are allowed to complain and vote to change the situation. Implying someone doesn’t have the right to complain or change an existing system is just how fascism works…
Since you seem to know what platform have they moved to generally?

Every1 EV for European Markets – EVEnglish5·4 months agoI am quite hyped for this thing, 20k euro (prob 25k euro here in Finland with the preposterous car taxes) is quite a reasonable price, and 2027 gives me enough time to save up for one.

OrloNorppatoAMUSING, INTERESTING, OUTRAGEOUS, or PROFOUND@lemmy.world•Trump'ϟ Scottish golf course is extensively vandalizedEnglish22·4 months agoAmericans being shocked at European protest actually being protests will never not be funny. For some reason Americans will change their profile pic for a day and think they’re making a statement while Europeans will only recognize an event as a protest when something is literally burning or destroyed
OrloNorppato Economy@lemmy.world•EU must brace for impact of Trump wrecking ball on global trading system | Heather StewartEnglish31·4 months agoAm I crazy for thinking that this will be fine? Most people here in Europe have some experience or at the very least an understanding of the unbelievable destruction our continent has gone through in the last 100 years. I am in Finland and my country was basically a developing country until the 1980s frankly. We have gone through depression periods in recent history as a continent at various points.
You need to really nuke things for us to not have some optimism to recover. I do not feel that for Americans. I used to live in the USA for close to a decade, and what I noticed is that a lot of Americans have gotten so full of themselves, figuratively unable to close their belts from greed that a disruption to the over consumption is going to cause significant chaos.
I am more worried for the average American about what will happen when the iPhone is no longer affordable and we get into a serious financial depression that Americans haven’t experienced for a century.
Somehow the complexity of using Lemmy compared to other social media sites and the decentralized nature of it has really gotten rid of the trollfarms and bot spam to a pretty good extent. I realize now that Reddit has such an insane amount of bad-faith actors that cause the site to be so toxic, same with all other mainstream social media.
OrloNorppato You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: That nazis Don't Actually Believe in Free SpeechEnglish1·4 months agoIt doesn’t necessarily surprise me, but I just expected more from our generation for some reason. It seems like people are degrading to the point where fully grown adults are pushing these boundaries on purpose like the teenagers you speak of. I do not remember it being this bad 10 years ago.
My alternative was to start carrying a wallet with cards. Maybe it’s not wise to give card information for free to a service like that in general.
OrloNorppato You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: That nazis Don't Actually Believe in Free SpeechEnglish1607·4 months agoIt’s insane to me that somehow free speech has been successfully twisted into a dog whistle to basically just spread disinformation, actively call for extermination of minority groups and openly attack and threaten other people. That shit is not free speech those are malicious actions - and they should absolutely not be tolerated under some vague guise of free speech.

For anyone reading, any idea what the music catalogue on Qobuz is compared to Apple/YouTube/Spotify music? I checked out the website and it looks like Qobuz is kinda expensive (I pay 9.99 euros a month for YouTube Premium + YouTube Music so it’s really hard to get rid of it and find a better alternative)
That is the reason why I gotta just trust that the people running the country and EU know what they are doing.
I am in Finland and I really do trust we are doing what we need to, our defense forces and government is very shush shush regarding defense, every government and defense outlet was adamant that we weren’t joining NATO until the foreign minister and president announced the move. At least in a country of 5 million we are really thinking of each other here. Let’s just hope that is the case for the rest of the EU and the overall union.
