I sometimes listen to Russian radio and run it through Google translate. It’s endless pseudo-philosophy that just goes on for hours and hours. Feels like it’s a trope in the Russian world.

Can you share your process for doing that? I’ve been trying to figure out how to live (or close to live) translate TV and radio, but a lot of the tools I’ve come across seem to be geared towards cross-language conversations.

Yeah I’m referring to medium wave radio I can receive here in Helsinki. I don’t expect licenses are granted for dissenting voices even if they exist.

It had license until 2022. But its editor is known for pushing and protecting Moscow’s ДЭГ where protocols are made up by Sobyanin.

Don’t know what you can receive in Helsinki. Probably something from SPb.

Was it actually that crazy? My fragile mind can’t handle direct exposure right now, but if you’ve seen it I’m eager to hear about it

Yes. Putin is famous for dodging questions by rambling about random shit, but this time he really outdid himself by starting rambling not even a minute into the “interview” and going on for 2 hours straight.

As long as you get that feeling, then no need to evaluate the content of things. We have teams of people to do that. Then they tell you what context cues to look for instead of evaluating it yourself.

What else would it be? Why the fuck would Putin sit down with anyone in an interview if not to propagandise?

This whole set up looked like a vanity show, tbh

Don’t listen to them. First thing putin asked was “do you want a talk show or a serious conversation?” You don’t need to agree with him but the whole interview was a reasonable and civilized attempt to show the russian perspective to western audiences.

I believe that he believes in what he’s saying. He’s been talking and writing articles about this for years. He’s that out of touch with reality. Remember, he doesn’t even use internet.

What he has to say is that Ukraine should be destroyed and ethnically cleansed. Why on earth would you want to hear more of what he has to say?

You accuse someone of all sorts of things, and never give them a fair chance to defend themselves through dialog. Tell me again how this is a fair aproach. Sounds like you just want to shut down someone for fear of them being right and you wrong.

Except for the fact that he’s making a lot of shit up, I’m from eastern europe and none of his stories about Poland, Lithuania and Kievan Rus were accurate at all.

Even if they were true, his point is that “we used to own Ukraine so we’re going to kill people until we do again”

          You know, like fascists do.

Also Wonder if he lost a word about the Kievan Rus’ which would give Ukraine a stronger claim on russian territory than what Russia claims for Ukraine belonging to it. Not that you should go there but that whole line of arguing doesn’t even work for itself

Of course he did not. That’s why they removed the word Kievan from that term in History textbooks, it’s now just Rus, no Kiev
