That message irritated me so much. “We endeavor to deliver the lowest amount of ads to our customers, fewer than our competitors!” Like you were doing with no ads?

Yeah that’s sort of where late stage capitalism tries to go, the innovation of the Internet really disrupted their plans but they’re pushing hard to return to that “golden era” I almost forgot that cable still exists in some form, it must be a hellscape

Right? 0. Zero is the lowest amount of ads. You were already doing that. What they actually mean is “we endeavor to deliver the maximum number of ads that won’t drive you off our platform to our competitors”.

I’m waiting until the moment I see an ad, then cancelling on the spot.

Shame, I do think Prime has the best non Trek sci fi collection of all the streamers and I enjoy the convenience but I cannot abide ads and refuse to do anything that would help make the ad transition successful.

Hundred percent. Starting to look for a good external HD. Probably need to look into seedboxes etc and get into legit sailing the high seas etc. It’s a hassle but screw those profit hungry bastards.

Worth spending the time and effort IMO. All of Trek is on my hard drive and will stay there forever, no ads. This new move just means I’ll cancel prime and impulse buy less bullshit, saves me money both ways.

Legit! Do you back up the hard drive or how do you guard against failure? (One of my large ones failed one day and I lost a huge swathe of my collection.)

That’s something I’ve been considering myself actually. SSDs are coming down in price so I’d like to build a redundant server, I’m also still a student when it comes to this stuff

Just cancelled mine. Fuck em. I’ll get prime again if there is some deal, or game I want from Amazon prime games or something.

We’re gonna cancel ours when it comes up for renewal in March. Declining value/use to us, needing to tighten our belt financially, and now the ads, we’re done. Just more evidence to me that C-suite level execs are incompetent sociopaths.
