it was recommended for all instances. it would definitely cut down on spammers, but may discourage actual users from signing up too? just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on the matter.

Better to watch the situation first. If your instance becomes a safe haven for trolls, it may be a good option.

As other instances enable it, your instance might become a preferred way for trolls to sign up.
