That is a fine feline friend.

You inspired me to look up my own pets Gotcha Days. Mr Woof has his 10th Gotcha Day next year, meaning he will be about 12 years old - nearly a teenager! Miss Meow will have her 3rd in January, meaning she will be older than 3. The rescue I got her from told me was 6 months old, some of the paperwork had her as 4 years, and the vet that did her dental work thought she might be 2. And of course a lady will never divulge.

Can we talk about how bottled soda water is now $1.20 when it used to be 70c? Even at ALDI.

I didn’t realise carbon dioxide and water have become so expensive.

If you drink it often you may as well get a cheap soda stream maker at that price. Less plastic wastage too.

Seconded. I drink an obscene quantity of self bubbled water. They do do sneak things like change the bottle shape between charger types and formats to force new buys.

I’m not sure if soda stream is cheaper, the bottles and the gas cannisters are expensive but yes, it’s good that there is no plastic bottle waste.

I did the numbers and I think you break even after about 60L of soda water, if your machine costs $70. After that each L of soda water costs you about 33c. This all provided that the machine doesn’t break and you don’t buy additional soda bottles.

Does take up bench or cupboard space though.

Well the good news is I thought I was getting closer to 90% of my allocated hours for this project but I’m still at 78% and I smashed out one bit that I thought would take 2 days, in 3.5 hours. Thank fuck!

Not finishing everything before I go on Thursday, but I’ve decided I’ll take my work laptop after all and bash out the rest over the next week and then I have a completely clear mind for the rest of December :D and then maybe I can finally leave my job for real once I’m back…

Lamb has catastrophically dropped in price - $10-99 per kilo from the butcher for a whole 12 kg lamb. At this time of year, probably two-tooth or hogget rather than lamb lamb but whooeee! Time to stock the freezer. Six months ago lamb was more like $26-00 per kilo at Colesworth.

Pick up a bunch on the cheap the other day as well.

I think I read somewhere that farmers were culling in prep for the summer heat being insane this year, so the price is predicted to drop right down for a bit.

Was at Bunnings and noticed they have expanded their cleaning products aisle. Way cheaper than supermarket, especially the dishwasher tablets. Purchased some basil seedlings. Haven’t had great success in the past, because they burn if too sunny, get leggy if too shady. I’ve selected a spot that gets morning sun and afternoon dappled shade, hopefully that will keep them happy.

    Reasons I hate PTV #6487:

Trains are down so I caught a tram. It has now been an hour, and I’m only about two-thirds home.

It would’ve literally been faster to walk.

Where the fuck is the oversight?

One of my fantasies while living in Melbourne (Through the worst of the Connex and the early Metro years) was to magically teleport Transperth trains and operations onto the Melbourne network for a month. The whole system. I know it can’t really be done.

But to somehow show Melbournians how a train network could run in this country would really drive home how bad the trains were in Melbourne.

In related news: The train network in Perth was never privatised.

I think I need to take a break from binge re-watching Buffy. It’s giving me stressful dreams. Not about monsters or demons but there’s always some crisis going on in that show and it’s contagious.

Last episode I watched was The Body so 3/4 through season 5. Yeah the gang grows up and the show matures with them.

We’ve just finished binging on all four seasons of Ugly Betty, watched the last ever episode last night. I’m a middle-aged man with no interest in fashion, but that show is great - brilliant acting and story arcs, and it matures the characters so well.

Melbcat is home! I’m concerned though.

Cat TMI, Poo and wee talk

On pickup her the bottom of her carrier was saturated with urine that didn’t smell fresh and there was some fresh poo in there too. The poo could likely have happened on the way home but I could smell the strong ammonia of ripe wee the moment she was carried out.

Wondering if she was waiting zipped into the carrier since the morning and then there was a delay because of a flat tire, but since it smelled a few days old at least, perhaps she was so stressed out during her stay that she repeatedly urinated in there because it smelled familiar. (Possible because there was a cat with dementia there repeatedly meowing.)

I commented on it but was in a rush to get her home. On getting home and actually checking there was so much in there, enough for it to be from repeated urinations as multiple layers of blankets and cloth nappies on top of the puppy pads were soaked through, and she’d dug everything up to pee through to the bottom of the carrier.

I was also really clear about avoiding fragrance and gave them unscented detergent to use if she soiled her things, but she’s come home with spots on her fur smelling like perfume (which often rubs off the wrists of female vet staff while handling them).

She was also pretty hungry when she came home, going straight to the fresh biscuits put out and then demolishing a can and half of the 85g tins. Was she not getting frequent wet food and having to rely on dry, and was she struggling with that?

The owner talked about her staying in her carrier and only popping her head out to say hi, and mentioned the vet students were the one doing all her care. It’s possible she was stressed out and hiding in her carrier for that time and because she’s shut down and ‘good’ they didn’t really check in on her? The place was extremely busy.

This cattery had really good reviews and I had got a good feeling when I talked to the owner in detail before sending her there…

Am I being unreasonable if I ask what’s up? Ugh. I don’t want to torpedo good relations as this place came recommended by her normal vet and the owner seemed really knowledgable about cats needs… It just feels like seeing your kid come home from childcare in a soaked nappy that they’ve sat in all day.

It worries me that Melbcat could have been in distress for that week but tends to be very quiet and ‘good’ when scared and maybe they were so busy they didn’t notice what was going on. I need a place that’s sensitive to her needs when I’m sick and can’t be there.

Maybe I shouldn’t have left her there for the entire time. Maybe I should have got her after a day or two instead of allowing her to stay to let her get used to it 😔

Edit: She just had an asthma attack. I gave her puffers, tied a replacement carrier to the pram frame and walked to emergency. The nurse took a quick look. Her breathing has settled but now it’s me stressing out and trying not to puke

Don’t second guess it. Melbcat is home. You did the right thing with everything you knew at the time. I miss that ring them for a chat about it - so you can suss it out so you know if you feel ok leaving her there again. But don’t beat yourself up.

Thanks, she’s ok! She had a bronchodilator injection on top of the puffers and will have the puffer again for a week.

I haven’t shot any flies yet even after I opened the garage door and waited.

At first the roomies laughed at me. Now who’s asking “can I’va go”?
