I was thinking they should have included at aleast one third world city in their but turns out the population density of Kolkata, India is only 1.17x of Paris, France though the absolute population is twice as big. Didn’t know Paris was this packed.
Paris is the densest city outside of Asia.
That’s really neat, and shows how much sparsely populated most of the world is. I remember in the introduction to the book open veins of latin america, galeano talks about how much of a travesty it is that latin america is so underdeveloped and sparsely populated, having spent most of the 1500s onward growing monocrops for europe.

That’s a good thing in a lot of ways though. Room to grow room to fall back in the event of an invasion, areas to dispose of waste without harming communities etc.
And you know, open natural spaces free of development?
Sure, If you think that nature should be replaced by urbanization. Then yeah, wasted space i guess.
