@anders For me, the politics are not a problem, but the way the people express themselves. lemmy.ml is the most populated Lemmy instance, but it’s just a place where a bunch of vocal communist people (I’m not saying leftist, but actual communists) share various links on how bad is the American imperialism and how terrible it is for the world as we live in. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them would secretly be pro-Putin, as they do seem to support Russia in the war in Ukraine and roll out their proven propaganda. They are so disillusioned and ripped apart from reality that when you start bringing up actual counter-arguments to the discussion, they feel personally attacked and start trolling you for no reason.
And the admins, not only that they do not care about their activity, even though one of their rules is not to allow propaganda or hate speech (ignoring the etcetera part that one can only guess what it means, but not actually understand), but they banned me, lmfao. And they also deleted some of my comments for no reason at all. What can I say? I was initially thinking to find and contact them in order to have a civilized discussion over this, however, after finding this post and some of the comments, I see nothing of value was lost. Not to mention that on Friendica you can see in real time who downvotes your posts (they are recorded as dislikes), so I was able to see how a bunch of users mobilized to downvote all my posts in chain, including some that were not political at all, lol (I have evidence as I can scroll through my notification log and I can screenshot it, but I do not want to dox anybody here).
So I had to spend a significant amount of my day unsubscribing to communities on lemmy.ml that are analogous to the subreddits I am following, because being banned no longer allows you to post there and interact with the posts, right? I only kept some that I was sure I would not do that with in the first place, only follow them. It’s a pity, but there’s that.
I feel like Lemmy is the cringiest community out here in the Fediverse, the most cancerous one, despite the advantage of inheriting the Reddit format and adding a federation spin to it. Perhaps I am wrong. I would love to find a more general Lemmy instance that does not allow this thing to happen, being instead a place for civil discussion, allowing for more diversity of opinions, and centered around facts. I am sure such communities do exist, albeit in a more incipient form now, so I will keep searching them. Until then, Putin Huilo to everyone around and Slava Ukraina!
