Performing Nazi salutes has been illegal in Germany and Austria since the end of World War II and is punishable by law with prison time.
This ia huge clickbait sadly. It’s some random small oktoberfest, where some drunken germans maybe doing the Hitler greeting.
I’m not saying it’s okay what they do, but by far not world news. This would be maximum local news if at all.
Well they are also playing “Erika” which is a right wing dog whistle, though maybe not as uncommon in these circles, as outright Nazi salutes
Edit: Also curiously most people, myself included, never find themselves in danger of accidentally heil hitlering even when blackout drunk. Seems to become a more common occurrence in Saxony though.
I wish i could extinguish every trace of fascism in every aspect of reality. I really do. Stupid Nazis are hindering me from enjoying old german folk songs without being judged :(
Well I’m thinking the same, but then I’m not sure where to put this video (ignoring the sound track) on a scale from drunken singing to obvious Nazi salute.
Maybe i don’t know enough about Bierzelt culture. If they were singing Hölle, hölle, hölle or Atemlos, would you notice the (right) arm in the air? The arm movement seems unnatural (if the intention was signing with arms in the air), but this could still sort-of pass as not 100% Heil Hitler.
The band chose the song, for sure, that’s questionable. The event organisers should not allow this to happen. But the guests, should they leave? Sit down quietly and wait for the next song?
I could be in that tent and not recognise the song. Not my kind of music.
I could see people innocently copying the movement of others. It may be a tent full of Nazis, scary, but the video does not proof this.

Did we watch the same video? In the Twitter thread I saw the lady right in front was doing multiple Nazi salutes in a row, very excited about the song. Don’t think there’s any ambiguity what she was doing
blocking op it is
Of all the posts on the Internet, why is it this one you take issue with?
Of all the comments on the Internet, why is it this one you take issue with?
The implication of whining about click bait on this post which is no worse than anything else, is Nazi sympathizing. That’s why this post is different.
Lol more downvotes please! Let’s not pretend we left the Nazis, sympathizers and troll farms on Reddit!
Why do you have to choose one?
Why make a point of only this one?
One doesn’t have to publicly criticise literally everything before criticizing this. That’s ridiculous.
Why were you complaining about the comment? Aren’t there more important problems to worry about, like world hunger and world peace, or the invasion of UA?
Should be easy to catch and jail them, if photos and videos are being taken all over the event.
Germany should learn how Americans were able to catch so many Nazis during the Jan 6th insurrection. 😂
Did you read the article? They think 3 people were making the salute. Suspect that might be hard to prove from pictures alone and a still can be just someone’s arms raised like shown in the stock picture included. This is such a dumb article for clicks and certainly not world News.
Did you watch the video? They clearly did the Hitler salute and violated German law.
It’s not only the Hitler salute, also the nazi song with all in this Tent. The Oktoberfest is an event that attracts a lot of international tourism, but access to the majority of the Bierzelte is reserved for certain groups of high-ranking politicians and industrialists. Given that Bavaria is a Bundesland where the CSU has always reigned and in recent years also the AfD, both far-right and fascist parties, are not so surprised by scenes like these, which are surely not the first time this has happened.
This happens when, in a misunderstood democracy and freedom, to tolerate those who would eliminate these values, when they could, and even given a voice in parliaments. They are a danger that must be eliminated from public life, because, with their populism and lies, they can eliminate all the civil rights and social advances achieved, as happened in 1933. But apparently, little has been learned. It makes no sense to prohibit Nazi symbols, when on the other hand xeno/homophobic and fascist speeches are tolerated in parliament and disseminated in the media.
This did not happen at Oktoberfest (Munich, Bavaria). This was in some village in Saxony.
In Saxony. Unfortunately I’m not even surprised anymore.
That was a disappointing Where’s
Waldothe Nazi. Everyone is either clapping or some shit. Waste of time. At least the dude with the roasted chicken for a hat was fun. 1/5 don’t recommend.I also stared at the picture for way too long before realizing there was a video down below.
“Where’s
Waldothe Nazi.” I almost spit out my water. 🤣
Proud neo-nazis or drunk idiots?
If you’re a drunk idiot “jokingly” doing nazi salutes as an adult in Germany, you’re just being a nazi. At best nazi-adjacent.
I think you’re severely underestimating how stupid some people can be without malicious intent. Not that I’m justifying their behavior in any way, but it’s possible they’re just really stupid.
asdfasfasdf
Not for nothing, but it could also be tourists. Not defending nazis, because I would argue that being drunk lowers inhibitions, but it doesn’t make you a nazi.
Yes, tourists sometimes think it would be funny. But this did not happen at the Oktoberfest in Munich. It was an Oktoberfest in a village in Saxony with about 2500 inhabitants (actually a collection of several villages). I would bet the chances of tourists being present are very close to zero.
Some people visit Saxony. Cool castles, Dresden… yeah Ok probably not tourists.
asdfasfs
Right, but we’re talking about the people in this photo. Germans and Austrians know not to make nazi salutes because you could face legal repercussions. That’s a weird concept for Americans, though. I kind of wish we did jail more nazis, but that’s besides the point.
asdfasfasdf
And I think you are underestimating how much of a deeply ingrained taboo the nazi salute is for the typical German. You are right, some people can be very stupid, especially drunk. But no German who has not been in some way socilized among nazis would be stupid enough to ever casually do a nazi salute. You just don’t do it.
The only exception I might allow besides actual nazis are very stupid or drunk (or both) teenagers trying too hard to be edgy. And even then most people would find it hard to believe that they’re not at least right leaning.Being really stupid is a requirement for being a Neo-Nazi. Stupidity is not an excuse.
There is no “nazi but just ironically”
@atlasraven31 Possibly drunk proud neo-nazi idiots.
Austria has no part in this, the art student was rejected as was the custom. Ask the neighbour for why they fed and welcomed some maniac autocrat tryant

They never fucking learn…
There is no duo more iconic than Germans and Nazism.
BAVARIAN BEER HOUSE IN BRISBANE SUCKS ASS!!!
Ok mate sleep it off
I guess bogans like it
Reminder that germany never underwent denazification; there are still nazi members in power to this day.
Could you name one?
aha, of fucking course it’s a feddit de user, of course. Strike three. God I can’t wait for domain block.
Could have just said “no”
And get sucked into a stupid debate? No thanks. When someone comes up to you with debate pervertry, the correct response is to instantly block and not waste energy on them.
TIL that requesting proof for outlandish statements is debate pervetry. But I guess I take your advice and will block trolls like you
I disagree with what you’re implying. FYI, I’m a migrant in Germany, follow dach@feddit.de to practice the language and it’s my understanding that most of the posts there are inclined towards progressive or leftist ideals. Also, I chose migrating here instead of the US because it felt like it has less fascists. Of course, that’s just my humble world view.
Can’t discuss with these people. Anyway, you’re right. Feddit is definitely a leftist community which is one of the reasons I’m there. Germany surely has a lot more extreme right wing people which is just sad to see. The media is responsible for big parts of that.

While you are correct in the fact that the denazification process was mostly a joke you should still try to do some maths here. Someone who was at least 20 at the end of the Hitler regime (in order to be part of the party etc.) in 1945 would be at least 96 today. Our politicians are old, yes, but they’re not that old.
Surprising no one unfortunately…
Amazing that something not pro-Germany or anti-American slipped on to here. They must still be asleep.
welcome to your bubble. german subs are full of critical stuff. e.g. search for “Bahn”.
So are the history books
I’ve been up since 4am (insomnia), so nope.
ich_iel is like 90% anti-neo-nazi stuff nowadays. I don’t even speak German and can tell that much.
Why is it not 100%
10% is reserved for Pedalo.
Tell me the last pro-Germany thing you read on the internet. Ill wait.
Lol, that’s a good one. 49€ ticket probably? At least until they cancel it…
That actually was pretty good news, yes.
