I’d bet my bottom dollar this meme was not created by a women. I don’t know any who would find it remotely wierd that women live longer than men.

Feel like men should be asking the first question and the second panel be “also men”

You can do it without speaking for whole male population, leaving out untrue statements about female population. It is possible. Maybe there would be more people finding it funny.

Let’s call it sexist statement which generalizes behavior and reinforces stereotypes. Mostly shows authors immature way of thinking and insecurity.

Hes giving an example of how men on average have a tendency to do higher risk activity. It’s a statistical observation, not an encompassing one. OP is giving a specific example where the statistical observation applies. Higher risk could be smoking, drinking, gambling, driving faster, gambling. You could counter me by showing a statistic where men on average do not engage in higher risk activity.

Learn the difference between adjective and subject/object. Learn about ‘homonyms’ - just a note for a special person like you “homo” is not a slur. Learn about confirmation bias. The example you have shown right now is superb.

But you know what? I am giving it to you. You have won the internet today. You are the best of the best. ;)

Yes it is. For example if you read the article I’ve linked, you’ll notice it does include the adjective.

But even if anyone is offended, that doesn’t make them wrong. Being unharmed by slurs implies privilege, not rationality.

“Homo” and “Retard” are both slurs when used in a derogative way. As an autistic person who also happens to be gay, both words are hurtful when used in the way you use them. Please do better, especially if you’re not part of either minority group. Then it’s just embarassing for you to use words that you really shouldn’t be using.

So we are going to erase every word that can be used as slur as well? I guess we will stop talking about animals like “ape”, “pig”, “monkey” and there should be a law that prohibits grouping of any round object that can be described as “ball” so people don’t think it can be used as a slur. Yeah from now don’t use those words in public because I will get offended personally …

Btw dude… homo means human. Pull your head out of your self centered behind. There is a person in the same thread calling people ‘douche’ yet you are offended by completely normal words like ‘homo’ or ‘retarded’. ;)

You can’t make any word a slur. Slurs are specifically words used to show prejudice or to oppress a group of marginalized people. You’re not going to use the n-word, are you? So don’t use words that historically and still is used against intellectually disabled and developmentally disabled people.

Your “deal with it” rhetoric also doesn’t come across as anything else but a lack of good argument. You know you could just be a nice human and have empathy for people who are hurt by the words you’re using instead of being a stubborn asshole.

In my country the phrase “jævla homo” is a slur against gay people. So just because a word has multiple meanings doesn’t mean it isn’t a slur when used in the right context.

And please spare me from your passive-aggressive winking faces. It doesn’t come across as anything else but childish.

Yet you are the only one here calling people names. You make no sense at all

No wonder you have no idea about meaning of the word ‘retarded’ if you have trouble reading. And calling someone ‘douche’ while playing self proclaimed moral hero is kinda silly.

And I agree I do not like sexism and gender stereotypes. But I can imagine them being funny for immature, mentally lacking people. :)

I don’t understand that view. Care to elaborate?

Why shouldn’t people use retarded as an insult? Because some handicapped people are retarded? Or is it that all handicapped people are retarded and retarded is just another word for it.

I always thought retarded means slow in the head to an degree that makes you not functional anymore. So a retarded person wouldn’t be insulted by the word as they would be to retarded to comprehend the meaning.

I lived for a year in central FL in a little house on a big lake that had a lagoon in the back yard where a momma gator raised her broods, so I would often come home to find 50 or so little alligators sunning themselves. For fun I would try to sneak up on them; my strategy was to stand stock-still and only move towards them a little bit whenever the wind blew. This actually worked and I could usually get right up next to one of them and then I would reach down and tap it between the eyes, at which point it take off into the lagoon which prompted all the other little gators to take off too.

Great fun, until one day I happened to glance down while doing this and thought “huh, I don’t remember there being a huge log right there.” It was of course the momma gator, about 10’ long not counting the tail. That was the last time I ever tried the sneaking-up shit. FWIW alligators really don’t ever attack adult humans and they never do on land - but that might just be because nobody (but me) is stupid enough to poke their children in the head.

The BBC used a fake crocodile to get closeup shots of Nile crocodiles.

That being said, I don’t think this would work, simply because they aren’t going to move like an alligator, and they are doing this stunt with the intent of getting a reaction out of the animal.

I realize this is a meme, but isn’t it mostly linked to how many men died in wars last century, which disproportionately skews the numbers?

It’s a lot of things in reality. Past numbers are skewed by war, but also men are bigger risk takers, less likely to seek medical care, less likely to seek mental healthcare, more likely to isolate, more likely to drink and use drugs (and when they do, a higher average amount), more likely to commit suicide, and the list goes on.

I want to throw in the following explanations I read (I haven’t fact checked them but find them interesting for this post). Women are statistically smaller than men and smaller individuals of a species live longer than larger ones. Men on average have faster metabolisms than women which is said to contribute to faster aging as well.
