i’m pretty new here (came with the exodus), and it seemed like it would be better for a bit. but i just told a family member a couple hours ago that it seems like the worst of reddit is starting to show up.

I actually saw an increase as well, but lately its become friendlier again. I think it might have to do with the recent waves of defederation, but which instance did it, I don’t know

It’s better, but I still often see posts with massive amounts of downvotes for no reason.

Also this is specific to SJW, but I often see the opinions from the people that are less invested in the topic being pushed all the way to the bottom, due to the more active people downvoting everything. (agora)

The thing that I hate about it is that I am on the spectrum, and as such have posted things that have gotten down voted to hell and back but even when I ask why, I never get an answer. The question “why is this happening I don’t understand” only feeds the down votes. Now, idgaf about internet points, I’d just like to know what’s wrong about what I said.

And for the record I’m normal ASD, not the 4chan Hitler shit, so it’s not because I said anything racist lol

You’ve made twelve (12) comments, and none of them or your posts are downvoted. What are you talking about?

Hell, a lot of the time you’d get downvoted purely as some form of competition. An attempt to increase the chance of their post/comment getting upvoted. Then there’s the rest who downvote it purely because it was already downvoted by others.

Funny you should say that. I have always eaten fairly healthy, but since a year I’ve really doing my best to really eat healthy. Cutting out any fast food, a lot of sugar, way less alcohol, less salt etc. I am not an absolutist, and a few weeks ago I was craving pizza. Ordered NY Pizza, felt like I had salt poisoning for half a day afterwards. It really made me feel physically bad. Taste was good though.

agree, I tried advertising Lemmy to my friends, but when they are showing very little interest in the idea of digital freedom or privacy I just stop trying.

It also doesn’t help that one person in question jumped the (reddit) ship to Twitter.

Someone else I tried playes League and OW2.

I made the decision that maybe lemmy isn’t for everyone. please stay unpopular/hidden and fun.

I’m sorry, but it’s time for you to leave. /s

But seriously. It’s not an argument against using Lemmy. It’s more, that OW’s community has a reputation for being toxic and he does not want them on here.

People downplay the reasons people get toxic on games like OW

When you’re forced to rely on other people to help you achieve a goal and the majority of those people have the cognition of a brick it gets pretty hard to stay calm.

It’s why I quit playing team based games like it in the first place. I wasn’t having fun and I’d get pissed over small shit.

I don’t think being toxic in a game translates to being toxic in a meme community.

Although lemmy communities for league and OW (tbh most of lemmy) are much much less inactive the than their reddit counterparts.

Getting downvoted because lemmy dickriders got upset

what SomeBoyo said, but also because of stereotypes. You can kinda assume someone’s personality by what a they like, and this is not a very joy sparking track record.

I feel like I have to note: I have nothing aginst you.

Oh, I understand, I didn’t try to start an argument by my comment. Was just curious as to how OW is nowadays perceived from outside, and the picture is kind of sad. But eh, the game is fun as long as I keep text and voice chat disabled and just play for myself - so the community complaints are absolutely valid.

how OW is nowadays perceived from outside

Bad, just check steam lol. I myself even prefer tf2 over OW anyday. tried it, it’s really not that fun tbh. At least for me fun in a multiplayer game needs to have a layer of communication, and likeable devs as it’s most likely a live service. OW had the most unfun players I’ve ever met, and I have a friend added on Discord from League for crying out loud (my bar isn’t that high). Don’t even get me started the fun I had in tf2, we roleplayed once that my love interest (who was a nother player, in rp) cheated on me, because he got auto balanced. Another time in tf2 we talked about periods (and maybe drinking it? I can’t remember).

In OW my greatest memory was we idolized someone called Dave. Even that was half assed, as only 1 guy from the enemy joined in on the fun and he even quit half way thru. It wasn’t that good of a match, but it was the best that I can recall.

I get that some ppl enjoy these games, but it housing the worst collection of users I’ve ever seen (and I played league, saying it again)

sorry ranted a bit TL;DR: OW’s community is bad imo.

You’re good, man, I understand. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I’m not going to pretend the situation you’ve described isn’t true. I’ve never played TF2 when it was more active, sadly, so I can’t really compare it myself.

Steam review bombing aside, I find the actual gameplay fun, so I pop in couple times a week for some hours. Especially with the current season being really good for supports, which is my preferred role.

I’ll probably stop playing for a couple of months once the balance shifts over or if I get bored, until something new and interesting enough gets added (which was largely the reason I even came back to the game). Until then, I’ll just stay in my bubble and hope for the best.

I got permanently banned from personal finance for pointing out that America doesn’t have healthcare and it’s a sad problem for employees who get trapped.

The mod situation over there is getting comically bad. Hopefully this place ends up being much less toxic.

      No fuck you :-P

      Jk, ily

It’s true, we dont have healthcare unless your a member of congress, old, or poor. And old and poor people still have really shitty healthcare. The rest of us have “good” health insurance where a medically necessary sleep apnea test consisting of me getting to borrow a $200 sensor for 2 nights and a few minutes of someone analyzing the data, cost me $700 out of pocket.

Between the VA, Medicaid, Medicare, Private Insurance, cash patients, free clinics, HMOs…and then in the prescription world, private insurance, cash discount groups (i.e. GoodRX), store membership programs, and PBMs…America really has literally every type of insurance.

And unfortunately, the systems that the rest of the civilized world realized long ago are the “best” are, in America, the worst implemented and worst funded (state-funded (by a small flat tax) universal coverage and Medicare, which only covers the most sick and frail chunk of the population)…while the least efficient system (Private insurance) is not only the most common in working-age people, but also often either tied to employers or prohibitively expensive (quite a sticker shock looking at COBRA or Marketplace plans before realizing that healthcare is quite often the second most expensive part of payroll, and for low-wage workers may even be the most expensive).

And then there’s the VA, which could be a great system, except the government consistently fucks the doctors and the hospitals and surprised-pikachu’s when it falls on its face over and over again.

We still get our share of toxicity here. I mused recently that if you’re assessing the success of lemmy/kbin on how close an experience to reddit it is - I’ve been attacked in the same ways by hyper fixated debate lords here too
