Good. These people do such a disservice to westerners who actually want to travel and have prepared appropriately

These people are aspiring entrepreneurs, nobody is forcing you to give them money. If you can’t afford to patronize their business then start your own instead of complaining.

I don’t have to try at all. I’ve been to Bali 4 or 5 times in the last year and I’ve never had a problem with these traveling merchants. It’s the locals that really get on my nerves.

It’s still a business, they’re just selling more of an idea than a physical good. If it’s so easy why don’t you do it? Some people just like to sit at home and complain about the entrepreneurs that actually go out and do things.

Think about the all time greatest and smartest men to ever live, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates etc. How did they all get their starts? They asked for some handouts and they got them. You have no idea that these people in the photo aren’t the next great innovators, but if they never get the handout to start, we could all be missing out.

It’s usually also kids born in a privileged middle class family who do this shit. Because they know there is a safety net back at home who will buy them a ticket if they want to get home.

A lower class person couldn’t even dream of having enough money to get that initial ticket to Europe, that shit is expensive

I’m from a blue collar family and the fact that they’re sitting there with functioning limbs, often among locals without is disgusting beyond belief.

How can you sit there and ask for help when you are perfectly capable of helping yourself? And how dare you take away from the locals who need the money way more than you can ever imagine?

Why do they need to go to Europe first to get to Bali? Not every begpacker is American. Most begpackers on Bali are probably Aussies

Plenty of places you can go begpacking without having to take a single plane… Also not every begpackers need to take a plane to Europe.

For real. If people want to beg, at least post it on GoFundMe and give me a reason why you think you deserve to travel the world when I sit at my desk for 8 hours a day to earn money to pay for rent.

Even if you posted something like, I will randomly offer strangers free labor and record their reaction at the destination, would be a good enough excuse to fund you.

I have done lot’s of backpacking. Always paid for it myself. I was a “pore” European student and I always felt rich being in Asia. I would never ever go begging there for money.

Yep. It’s a privileged existence for many of us that we have the means and opportunity to travel the world. It’s immediately apparent when visiting some countries that our currency takes us a long way, and that (beyond local customs) haggling etc over what to us is a few cents is disgraceful. To beg in these places? Jfc.

Fun fact : In Javanese language “bali” means “go back or go home”, java is the neighbor island of bali.

You could say that The balinese are so sick of this backpacker that they ask them to bali

I would help the person on the left of the image by handing them a McDonald’s work application. Best I can do for people begging for money so they can travel around the world.
