Hi everyone,

With all of the rising subscription prices, I am hoping to get some advice on the best Android device that will allow me to use the greatest number of streaming app (e.g, NewPipe, Stremio, Spotify apk, etc)

My nice-to-haves would be a device with a large screen (6.7 inches+), ease of installing apps, and durability. I used to have Samsung phones before which would be super laggy within 3 years of purchase, which I do not get with my current iPhone.

I am considering OnePlus and Pixels but am open to any suggestions!

Basically any Android with unlockable bootloader.

And you should get Lucky Patcher if you want to pirate in app payments.

I would add to this: any widely used among enthusiasts Android to ensure (as best as can be ensured) decent long term support.

Find a ROM you’d want to flash (GrapheneOS is a popular option for its privacy and lack of added bloat) and visit their website. View their list of supported devices, and pick one from among them that fits your bill and can be had unlocked (i.e. not bought from a carrier in some kind of subscription/payment plan) and get that.

Google Pixel phones and OnePlus phones are devices I regularly see getting the latest versions from the major OSes. Samsung devices also. I know you had bad experiences with them in the past, but the manufacturer’s (lack of) continued support plays no small part in the reason you’ve experienced that. If they stop supporting the device 3 years from now and it starts to slow down, they might just be able to convince you to buy the new one…

Officially supported phones for GrapheneOS are pretty much limited to the latest two generations of Google pixel models.

The recommendation is not wrong in the general sense, but I doubt that the OP knows enough for setting up a custom ROM. They think that NewPipe is piracy.

Unlockable bootloader is not nearly enough. You have to make sure that the Android ROM you want to use still supports it, and if possible also that it will keep supporting it for a few more years.

For longevity reasons, yes. But what do you need a custom ROM for piracy? Root helps with piracy, since it allows you to e.g. modify the /data/data contents of an app.

But what good would a custom ROM do for piracy specifically?

And if they just want streaming (as it seems in the OP), literally any android phone is good enough, not even root needed. I don’t know of a single android phone that doesn’t allow sideloading.
