I have already changed my profile picture there as the Telegram logo with the text “message me on Telegram”, might download this bot also.
But will this actually encourage contacts to make the switch? The may be like “okay, I will not contact this guy then” and only few may download Signal/Telegram/other.
Currently only Secret Chats in Telegram are E2EE because it’s apparently tricky to implement in order to retain large groups and syncing chats across devices. In terms of security Signal may be a winner, but Telegram has more features.
I get it, but when I’m looking for a privacy friendly app messenger I just want to be able to send messages directly E2EE. I’m not looking for any fancy features. Even if Signal isn’t the perfect solution, I think it’s the best alternative for people coming from Whatsapp.
Second this. Also I am not sure, which Telegram features are missing in Signal? You have private voicechat, background server connectivity (so you don’t rely on google cloud messaging), you have voice/video calls, group chats. Sure you don’t have public group chats, and no video message, but who really cares?
I also notified all of my friends/family that I was going to stop using whatsapp. Just 2 or 3 people made the switch, others tend to prefer contact me by SMS. It was before the great “fall” of whatsapp this year so the impact might have been different if I had done it now though.

isn’t telegram not privacy-friendly?
Yeah it’s clearly not the best solution if you are looking for something privacy friendly. It’s a bit better than Whatsapp though.

they keep private keys in their own servers, the alphabet boys can definitely get hands on them if they want to
