            They are usually overpriced because someone is getting commission, but it’s a great way to find unique Xmas gift ideas to buy elsewhere.

            Ah, I see. Doesn’t change my core point.

            Because I’m sure those advertisements weren’t curated by digesting user interaction data and selling it to advertisers. And I’m sure those sales aren’t further used to build profiles to sell to advertisers. /s

            Just because they got a dumb Stanley cup shilled by their favorite influencer doesn’t mean they’re not ultimately the product.

              Users spend real money to buy creators virtual gifts, which can then be cashed out as fiat currency, with TikTok retaining 50% of the payout.

              Should probably read the article before ceding your point.

                Normally I would, but honestly, I think TikTok is a net negative, so my interest in how they get their profits virtually zero.

              that’s how advertisements work. but that doesn’t make the consumer the product. the product is still the product.
