Jeff Dunham is one of the most disappointing stand ups. He clearly can craft a set and a joke really well but he chooses to go for hack racist premises instead of doing real work.

His act never really changes. I saw him in the ‘90s with Achmed and the Jalapeño. Saw him in the ‘00s and it was pretty much the same act. Saw a video of him recently and it was the exact same schtick. Racist, stereotypes, and “get off my lawn”. Some might try to whitewash it as satire, but sure AF his audience isn’t there for satire.

Comedians doing wholly new sets every time is a thing fir the generation that follows Dunham so that’s not a shocker.

I just wish he used his talent to make different jokes.

My favorite joke I’ve seen Jeff Dunham deliver on stage is from some random old stand-up gig he did. His abstract purple puppet “Peanut” always wears one shoe. He says “Peanut, it looks like you lost a shoe.” Peanut says “Nah man, I found one.”

        It’s satire lampshading real racism.

When people use “satire” as a shield to tell hateful jokes or mock vulnerable populations, this is often referred to as “punching down.” It’s also sometimes called “pseudo-satire” or “false satire” because it lacks the critical intelligence and moral purpose that defines true satirical work.

It’s not comedy. It’s a clap trap for racists.

The article is satire not Jeff Dunham. Hopefully they made onion rings before you ate the onion.

I used to tell my friends long ago that this guy used puppets as a way to be as racist as possible without being called out. Somehow the puppets are a buffer in people’s brains. They would say i was over reacting but I’ve always just stuck with that cause it’s pretty obvious what he’s doing

Well shoot I bit the onion too. This legitimately would be one of the least outrageous things the administration has done, I didn’t even question it.

Even when I liked Jeff Dunham (I was in high school), Sweet Daddy Dee seemed like the product of him watching one 70s Blaxploitation film.

I too have seen plenty of his work, and even now I have to say, the man’s oeuvre underlines the unfortunate reality that anything can be made funny. Even if it’s. Y’know. Racism. Sweet Daddy Dee in particular stands out for one exchange where Dunham himself is the butt of the joke, for missing slang so dated that his audience is expected to get it. Dee: “You’re not just white, you’re neon white.”

The most damning thing we can say about him is that he’s only a comic. All his skill is delivery. Dude fully embraced bigoted stereotypes for his stand-up routine, and then basically nailed the execution on building, handling, and conversing with some deeply regrettable puppets. But his material is shit. Listen - there’s writers who could make these stereotypes hysterical. If Carlin was an asshole then the seven words might’ve been eight or nine and he’d still have people rolling in the aisles. Stonetoss, an actual fucking Illinois Nazi, knows how to make a webcomic, better than an aggravating number of non-fascists. Our boy Jeff Dunham goes onstage with an A+ performance for some C- material… about half of which would end anyone else’s career.

I think that’s the joke. To right wingers, a hick is what they might call racist, not recognizing real racism as valid.

The worst part is, he’s actually a talented ventriloquist. But he also just so happens to be a racist hack comedian. Like, damn dude, you spent years honing your craft and this is what you decided to do with your skills? What a waste.

Carrot Top is a good stand up. He murders the room on a regular basis. You might not like prop comics but he is better than most stand ups.

(I’m too lazy to go find the n with the squiggly above it)

I’m not sure about android devices, but if you’re using an iphone you can long-press ‘N’ and it’ll pull up non-english character options. Same applies for every letter.

Walter is a classic old timey racist that remembers when certain types weren’t allowed some places.

Bubba J is a typical racist that believes stereotypes are intrinsic attributes and doesn’t want to have anyone to worry about moving into his trailer park and steal his redneck treasures, like his fox body mustang shell or bikes he found.

Achmed is a religious zealot that wants anyone who isn’t a follower of Islam to die.

The rest are caricatures, some racist because Jeff is white, and one is a middle finger to his “bitch of an ex-wife.”

I wonder if Jeff will put Larry, an advisor to Trump, up for the event because that would be gold.
