I was wondering if there is an alternative platform such as Lemmy and Reddit that has these networks of discussion based forums with wide ranging topics but with more free speech/less censorship and a userbase that more realistically represents the actual people of the world.
I noticed that Reddit and especially Lemmy lean extremely far to the left and therefore have a pretty unrealistic bias for things which doesn’t accurately reflect how most average people would see things.
I’m someone who is very open for all kinds of viewpoints and I’m looking for a place where I can get answers that more accurately reflect peoples view.
For example as someone who’s interested in American politics and culture it is basically impossible to learn about it on this platform since everyone here including Americans themselves seems to have a deep hate towards America and the values it stands for.
I also noticed that even though it’s better than on Reddit there are still moderators here who will remove discussions just when people don’t agree on a topic. And I’m looking for something that is not censoring content unless it’s illegal to be able to freely express oneself.
The problem with platforms such as X is that they’re structurally drastically different from something like Lemmy or Reddit. Even though X does have communities, they’re not as wide ranging in topics and don’t focus on more in-depth discussion. Instead X seems to mainly promote prominent individuals opinions over the quality of content itself. Furthermore there also seems to be a character limit for X posts which basically only gives you a few basic sentences as a title without having a more detailed body section (unless you pay for it I guess, but even then the chance that anyone will see your post and answers is very low).
I assume I will probably also don’t get a proper answer on this one since I will now be called a disturbed radical right person who seeks platforms that will promote hate and child pornography or something.
If you’re having trouble finding the kind of opinions you’re looking for, maybe they aren’t the opinions of “the majority of the world.”
Maybe OP should touch grass if he wants to know what real people think
Around 50% of US voters who voted voted conservative in their last election. Around 40% of Canadians polled say they will vote conservative in the next election. That isn’t “a majority of the world”, but it’s a lot of people.
I haven’t seen many posts on here from them. We’d have more interesting discussions if it wasn’t just us agreeing how terrible those people are.
Edit: made it clear that I’m referring to people who voted.
First off, that’s completely false.
Less than 30% of Americans voted for Donald Trump. And a small portion of those people who did vote Trump, voted Democrat for their local elections.
I won’t argue with your numbers about Canada, but since your US numbers were inaccurate, I’m guessing the Canadian numbers are as well.
I’ve made it clear in my comment that I’m referring to people who voted in the last US election.
The point stands: significant portions of the population aren’t on Lemmy. Popular viewpoints aren’t represented. Lemmy is poorer for it.
Typical. Edit the comment, move the goalpost, and claim that the point still stands even though the data you used as proof fell apart.
I have no interest in talking to pieces of shit that voted to make some of my children “superior” to the others.
They put my family at risk, and I cannot accept that as a simple “difference of opinions”.
Lemmy is better off without the misinformation and hate those people bring.
Go hang out in 4chan if you think those people bring anything off value to the conversation.
I think those other viewpoints can be seen on many different social media platforms and sectors of life. It’s just not prevent on Lemmy and Reddit
If I go looking, I can probably find plenty of people sharing “evidence” that the Earth is flat. That doesn’t mean most people are falling for it.
