Today’s theme soap is tough! This second week is starting like the first. I had already resigned myself to air budding the day when @BeerEater on discord pointed out that Brut is a 50% scent notes match. So, Brut to the rescue again! With jasmine, lavender and orange blossom, Woesteling, the Brut dupe gives me two points:
Bufflehead Soap Co. - Elephant Walk
Notes: Lavender, Jasmine, Blood Orange, Orange Blossom, Teakwood
I wonder how bad of a bloodbath today will become.

The official marketing scent notes for Jackie are just over the 50% minimum for the theme soap today. It’s also a great fougère, so no complaints from me.

Airbud for me today, so I went with the full DFTR trick for the first time. Its boozy, figgy, woody, green fragrance was a great start to the day. I’m glad I brought this in after DJ piqued my curiosity. Great stuff.

Airbudding today. I could have fought for a CB bought it was a debate on whether Neroli was considered Orange Blossom even though it’s made from Orange Blossom. But in the end I’m just here to have fun and to play within the rules as they are written. The CB streak is up to 41 days and I know I have one for tomorrow that works!

Airbud. This was a really difficult soap for a lot of people, and I’m surprised to see two successful non-airbud shaves so far. This contest certainly rewards large soap collections! (and non-travelers).| Category | ∑ | Δ | | :---------------------: | -----: | -----: | | Daily theme soap | 0 | 0 | | Artisan | 4 | 0 | | Scenter | 6 | 0 | | Half of the scent notes | 8 | 0| | Airbudding the day | 1 | +1 | | Cross posting | 8 | +1 | | Snitching | 1 | 0 | | Snitching incorrectly | 0 | 0 | | Participation Trophy | 5 | +1 | | Total | 33 | +3 |Some new shit has come to light. Shave #2 for today.
It came to light that “Neroli” is code for “Orange Blossom”. This brings Tabac into play with the following scent notes:
Musk, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Rose, Tobacco, Oakmoss, Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Lemon, Aldehydes, Lavender, Neroli, Orris Root, Bergamot, Amber, Pine, Carnation
That’s 3 scent notes in common with Elephant Walk.
Now for the elephant (walk) in the room – Neroli vs Orange Blossom. I have two bits of proof that they are the same. Some say they’re different, and that’s their opinion, although I doubt those people have smelled them side-by-side (nor have I).
Proof #1: https://mamabearssoaps.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1380
This soap is called “Orange Blossom”, but the scent notes are “petitgrain, bergamot, neroli, jasmine, sandalwood”. No orange blossom, but it does have neroli.Proof #2:
Our own Catie’s Bubbles says they are the same. Neroli is code for Orange Blossom. If there’s a legitimate argument that I’m wrong, then I’m ready to accept my fate. It’s been fun! I’ll probably be going out in the next week or so anyway because of travel. I’ve really enjoyed this contest so far. Everyone has been cordial and there have been some great discussions.

There are plenty of references to the contrary, including the first one you checked immediately,
and misrepresent:
The difference between how neroli and orange blossom smell and why they are referred to with different names, is a result of the process of extraction that is used to obtain the oil from the blooms. Neroli is extracted by steam distillation and orange blossom is extracted via a process of enfleurage (rarely used nowadays due to prohibitive costs) or solvent extraction.
The source of your second “proof”, when asked, agreed that there are differences in potency at least, as you know but leave out. This is part two of your screenshot:
and your first “proof”, well, that’s just Imhofing. I think you should go back to airbudding.
Its a shaving competition, not a fancy fragrance competition. The culture in this realm of smells, as shown by my proofs, is to use them interchangeably!
You do you. This seems quite obviously wrong to me.
I believe your claim that I’m breaking a rule is incorrect, and that you should lose all points for the day.
The vibe until yesterday has been great, and I agree with you here.
If Chiseled Face counts for LASSCO, then why can’t Neroli count for Orange Blossom, especially with evidence that it is often used interchangeably?
Either way, our lord and savior @enndeegee@sub.wetshaving.social has reliably and consistently said “if that’s the consensus”. I don’t think there is a consensus one way or the other, which is unfortunate, but also means that no rule has been broken. In discord there seemed to be a lot of excitement that Tabac was acceptable, followed by one or two people saying they disagree, followed by some people getting scared and taking an airbud. Proof was found that supports both opinions… therefore no consensus.
Also, unrelated, what is imhofing? I can’t find anything online about it.
If Chiseled Face counts for LASSCO, then why can’t Neroli count for Orange Blossom, especially with evidence that it is often used interchangeably?
This is a misrepresentation. Ron is an artisan who made both soaps. The brands don’t matter. Ron counts, not Chiseled Face. Just reading the rules, no trick, no interpretation.
Also, unrelated, what is imhofing?
“Disproving” something with a bogus argument. Senator Imhofe threw a snowball in the capitol to prove that it’s cold outside and therefore global warming didn’t exist. You showed evidence of two people conflating neroli and orange blossom, when that doesn’t mean anything. The two substances are produced from the same ingredients, but differently. Scotch whiskey and Bavarian beer have the same ingredients too, are they the same?
Often used interchangeably
Ok, but that isn’t the question, is it?
I believe your claim that I’m breaking a rule is incorrect, and that you should lose all points for the day.
Really? Low blow
