    November 12, 2024

    • Brush: Maggard 24mm 2 Band Badger
    • Razor: Gillette Tech (Z-4)
    • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (Germany) (2)
    • Lather: Australian Private Reserve - Velours Noir - Soap
    • Post Shave: Chicago Grooming Co. - Frankie & Myrna - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

I finished off my allMan balm (although I probably have a backup somewhere) which freed up the old Mammoth bottle with a pump. Goodfellow Face Lotion (a Target exclusive) has been treating me really well lately, so I transferred some into the pump bottle.

The lotion is very thick (similar to Declaration Grooming Liniment (but not as greasy)). I had trouble priming the pump, but now that it’s primed I don’t think I’ll have any problems.

The APR soap base has always treated me well. I just load the dickens out of it and work it until it’s not too puffy. I bet if I loaded a little drier it would be easier to work with.

Since @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social used his entire collection of R41s today, I felt compelled to follow suit: I shaved with every R41 that I own (n=1).

I’m a bit under the weather since yesterday, and nauseous from time to time. Hope that this gets better soon.

    Have a good evening!

November 12, 2024 - Tea for Twosday Too

    • Brush: Wald Nimbus Bloodline 27mm J3

    • Blade Holder: Gillette NEW SC

    • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (10)

    • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Cheshire - Soap

    • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann - Cheshire - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was a very pleasant shave. There was no need for a 3-piece razor after the NEW short comb in my opinion. It’s an excellent razor. [Of course, the head should pivot, and it should accept 5 blades]

    Tue 12 Nov 2024

    • Brush: Mühle Purist (21 mm silvertip badger, ebonite handle)
    • Razor: Mühle R41 Twist
    • Blade: Feather new Hi-Stainless
    • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! 3 Scots
    • Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! 3 Scots
    • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! 3 Scots

Very nice morning shave with 3 Scots a.k.a. Cool Spiced.

I’m not sure I’ve used the big R 41 Twist since I got the stainless steel and titanium versions. Over the next three days I’ll use all three of them in that order. Really great razor geometry IMO. The exposure is big enough to give good blade feel, but the blade feels well clamped. The result is great haptic feedback. If it had the toast butter audio feedback of the MMOC, it’d be too good 😊

I figured you would do a 3-pass shave; one pass with each razor :) Three razors of the same model. That’s just conspicuous consumption. Watch out, that’s very American!

That’s a good idea. I’ll do that on day three.

Three razors of the same model.

Yes, that’s just proper methodology. How else are you going to form an opinion on which material you prefer? Anything else would be highly irresponsible. Same goes for matching stainless/carbon steel Rausts, or soon-to-be-complete weekly sets of 14s 😇

Now, I agree with this fully, but my family’s reaction looks like this 🙄

The arrival of the Moarteen will give me six 14s. I’d love to find an Iberia or Palmera to fill out the weekly set. @whosgotthepudding’s Iberia was an exceptional find. I’m hoping something like that becomes available.

12.11.2024 - Coffee in the evening

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
    • Razor: Stando Perun
    • Blade: Voskhod
    • Lather: WestMan - MazaGran
    • Post-Shave: Osma alum block; Westman - MazaGran balm

1 pass plus buffing on both head and face. Overall, a rather comfortable but not very close shave.

Figured some coffee notes would do wonders, so today was a call for WestMan’s MazaGran. A gourmand scent of a coffee cocktail. The base is rather picky to hydrate - seems like there’s not much room for error about adding too much water. That’s also why I did just one pass on each part… This matching balm also seems to have gone bad. Ugh, I definitely need replacements soon.

Coupled the Perun with a mild blade and suddenly it’s ill-equipped to deal with my face. It was comfortable in comparison to my Hawk V2 face shave, but it looks like I used a dry shaver. Well, all in all it’s not quite what I hoped for at this price point.

Also, first time today where I used alum but not on any spot that I shaved - the spots behind my ears are currently having a very hard time and are prone to breaking open, which hurts like hell. Alum was good to seal it up and I don’t mind that short-term sting much.

        It isn’t that nice.
It catches rust despite supposedly being made of stainless steel.
It is very mild, needs a rather sharp blade - Voskhods don’t really cut well unless you just have peach fuzz. Pros are that it is nice to hold and the blade tabs are covered. That’s it though…

    Scum! Tue 12 Nov 2024

    • Brush: Mühle Purist (21 mm silvertip badger, ebonite handle)
    • Razor: Mühle R41 Twist
    • Blade: Feather new Hi-Stainless
    • Lather: Schmiere Abschaum
    • Post Shave: Schmiere 1959

Abschaum has the biggest discrepancy between the fragrance and its name. This scum smells clean and fresh like laundry detergent and I love it. The splash has a grandpa-y almost medicinal fragrance. It’s impossible not to enjoy this combination.

The big R41 Twist felt good, but since @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social suggested I should use all three R41s, one pass each, I feel like I’m doing it wrong 😅.

Tuesday, November 12, 2024: FLS - Tabac Tuesday

It was a pretty good shave for Tabac Tuesday. The lather didn’t quite get where I wanted it to, and the shave itself felt pretty rough. However, I got great results and minimal irritation.

Stirling Gentleman plays really nicely with the stank.

I think I might not like synthetic brushes very much. Surprisingly, they feel much rougher on my face than boar or badger do. Perhaps I just haven’t tried a nice enough synth yet?

Synths can be super soft. A motherlode fir instance is softer than any boar, badger, or horse I’ve ever tried

Thanks for the call out, I’ll keep my eyes open for one of these if they ever pop up (or if I ever have a handle that needs filling).

The Yaqi and Simpson synths that I own both feel soft to the touch, but they cause me more burn than my badger or boar brushes. I wonder if my technique could be part of the issue. I’m trying to stick to just paintbrush-like strokes with those brushes, but still feel some burn regardless.

Tuesday, November 12, 2024: SLS - First Fanchurian Impressions

    • Brush: Grizzly Bay - v24 Fanchurian 26mm badger
    • Razor: Rockwell - 6C
    • Blade: Bolazano - Superinox (4)
    • Lather: Stirling - Arkadia
    • Post: Stirling - Arkadia Aftershave splash
    • Post: Stirling - Glacial Unscented Aftershave balm
    • Frag: Stirling - Arkadia EdT

Today was my first shave with this v24 knot that u/BossHoggins10 graciously loaned me. I’ve wanted to try a “nicer” badger knot for a while now, so I’m definitely grateful to have the opportunity.

This thing whipped up a mean lather quickly, and the handle felt fantastic in hand. It’s a super dense knot that’s very soft on the face.

Comparing it with the Yaqi 2-band badger that I already own, it’s definitely higher quality. I’m not yet sure if it’s worth the price difference, but it’s for sure a step up.

Arkadia gave an excellent lather, as always.
