I actually wonder if he’s gonna pardon the Jan 6 rioters. It’s not like he needs them anymore.

Trump only does things when he sees a tangible benefit to himself. “Doesn’t cost him anything” is not really Trumps line of thinking.

That being said, I guess we’ll see in a bit.

It does benefit him - people will be more likely to break the law for him if they know they will eventually get away with it.

I don’t believe he thinks that abstractly. Maybe his advisors will tell him as such and he’ll do it but I have my doubts.

He wants his followers to love and worship him. Not operate in a, “I scratch your back, you scratch mine” sort of way. He just wants the, “you scratch my back” part.

By pardoning them he’s sending a message that he’ll do something for them for free. That’s not how Trump operates. He’s going to want something immediately in return; power or money or both. The Jan 6th insurrectionists don’t have much of either.

He wants them to help the next time. That’s a pretty tangible benefit

Very true. But it’s not like he doesn’t have an endless supply of those idiots already.

Never start taking for granted that it’s not completely bat shit crazy that we live in a country where a president could plausibly make multiple criminal cases against him just go away. That is not something that rules-based societies allow. That is not compatible with a democracy, at all. If he gets away with it, never again pretend that the US is a democracy. Never ever pretend that we are guided by things like a constitution or laws. Never pretend that we cherish justice or truth. Never let the rulers, like our new fascist overlords, wrap themselves in the comforting pretense of all these virtues. If they are going to be the bigoted theocratic autocrats that Americans apparently want, then make them at least be open about their evil. Don’t let them dress it up in nonsense and pretend to be good guys. Never let the drooling masses that voted this in forget that every dead kid, every broken family, every polluted stream, every flooded city, and every grinning billionaire criminal, is on them. They wanted this.

After Gore gotnhis win stolen by rampant Republican cheating, it was already dead clear that the US is not a democracy

Word to the wise, If you have a public social media profile, and had a hand in identifying J6 videos, wipe your social media presence now, and delete your profiles, and go the Avatar route

Trump is the most visible person here but the least I’m worried about. It would have been nice to see him rot in jail but alas, here we are.

I’m much more worried about the extremist cronies he’s surrounded by. First of all, trump is a pupoet, a useful idiot, who is controlled by both Putin and right wing religious extremists. These people will push through the most extremist policies possible, even things like divorce and freedom of religion and expression will soon be on the table soon. Trump will push for a dictatorship “because he’s doing so well” and people will love it for reasons, but Trump won’t live to see the end of this presidency, he’ll die in office. When he does, the religious death cult that wants Jesus back will have prettyich direct control of nukes.

Maybe I’m a Doomsday guy at this point, so be it, I see the worst him this hell hole situation
