True, 4 did indeed have whales in the sky, just like Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. There were zero references to towels or intergalactic highways in Star Trek 5.
I certainly had an easier time believing Laurence Luckinbill was Leonard Nimoy’s half-brother than I did believing that Tom Hardy was Patrick Stewart’s clone.
He was fine in terms of performance because he’s a decent actor, he just did not in any way convince me he was a Picard clone. You could claim that this was because of his time with the Remans or whatever, but it just seemed like a needless plot idea that just didn’t work. In fact, if Shinzon was just a rebel Romulan, it might have been a better movie.
First time I ever watched it I completely missed that he was supposed to be Picard. He was just an annoying bad guy to me. He just does not look or act like him at all. Great actor. Wrong part.
You know, I’d personally rate V above Nemesis, Insurrection, Generations, and Into Darkness… and that still feels like very faint praise. Star Trek has had some pretty lousy movies over the years.
I dunno. I’m gonna say it wasn’t complete trash. It’s still better than Nemesis.
The problem with 5 is that it was the the movie directly following 4 and 5 lacked whales so it was doomed from the start.

Thank you for saying that! When Nemesis came out and for years afterwards people praised Tom Hardy. I seemed to be the only one who disliked it.

Off-road dune buggy’s! Off-road dune buggy’s! Mounted laser gun!
It’s faint praise but I agree. I tried to rewatch Nemesis during lock down and didn’t make it to the end.
For the best, given how depressing the end is

Those 2 are generally regarded as the bottom of the barrel.
Where does Generations rank?
The scummy layer just above them.
“… oh.”
Hard disagree, but you still got my upvote because of Garak.
Excuse me? Nemesis had a cool crash scene in it
Exactly. It also has pretty nice cover art too!
Edit: I just thought of another good thing about Nemesis. The DRV/ Blu Ray versions can be used as a Frisby!
Also works as a coaster for those huge coffee mugs.
That’s not an advantage compared to V. V’s Laser Disc release makes a far better frisbee.
