    I really wonder how these companies come up with shit like that. Like, do they actually just have a meeting with the goal of designing this as user-hostile as possible?

    Or is there just one asshole somewhere up the food chain that comes up with shit like this by themselves, to maximize profit, and then convinces all the devs that this is good for users when they have a million toggles?

      yes, the goal of these cookies things is to intentionally be as user-hostile as possible, and everyone involved knows that. they justify it to themselves one way or another, like “hey, we’re providing a free service here, so it’s only fair that people let us track them!”
