Often when I turn on my PS5 I think of the those endless summer days alternating between going outside in the sweltering heat and playing my PS1 in front of the air conditioner with my older brother. Those were the days!

I hate the Xbox controller. I don’t think it matters to me either way console I use. Now I use ps5 and steam deck. Both using a PS controller.

I remember my family getting together when I was little and buying me an NES with Super Mario Bros and Mega Man. Unfortunately, I could never get a new game after that first purchase. It was too expensive or a waste of time. It was the 80s, they told me to go touch grass. That was free and “better”. I was stuck borrowing games from friends and neighborhood kids so I mostly lost interest.

I occasionally played games at the arcade or at a friends house but It wasn’t until I was over at a friends house watching him play FFVII that my PlayStation obsession began. I can’t truly touch on why that game spoke to me but it did and it was strong. I became dedicated to getting my hands on that system and game. I was a teenager and still to young work but I had my birthday money, took an under the table job at a local restaurant and found the drive to go around the neighborhood and earn that money. Whatever I could. Yard, house, etc. It was a major accomplishment to walk into the store, I forget which one… I think it was K-Mart, and walk out with the system and game. I mostly stick to JRPGs but I’ve fallen in love games with like God of War, Horizon, Infamous, Resistance, Sly Cooper, and Uncharted. I’ve tried the big hitters on Xbox and meh… although I will say, Nintendo still has a special place in my heart and they have some fun family games like Mario Kart, Mario Party and really just any Mario game. :)

I try to play everything I can to bring that feeling back and have come to accept that the titles that resonate with me the deepest are only on PlayStation. As a grown adult with limited free time, I’ve put my stock in this PlayStation ecosystem because it continues to give me my favorite stories.

Thank you so much for sharing! I can really relate. Are you able to bring back that special feeling regularly? Or is it more rare these days now that you are a bit older?

There have been some amazing games over the years that have really hit that majestic note over and over again. The Last of Us, God of War, FF VII Remake, Uncharted 2, Persona 5 Royal, Dead Space, Tales of Berseria, etc… I wouldn’t say its rare. There are some amazing story tellers out there and they have let me eat good these past two plus decades.

One of the beautiful things is that more and more games are coming out every week. It use to be that a game that peaked my interest would drop every few months. Now there is one every 2 - 3 weeks. I’ve learned to stop always expecting transcending adventures and to just appreciate your average fun journey. It’s been a blast.

It was the game console that was available at the after-school facilities I used to hang out in. PS1 became near-and-dear to me as well, when me and a couple buds found it in a corner collecting dust, everyone playing on the two PS2s that the place had.

Since the PS2s were often in use, we set it up again in our boredom and played the shit out of Ape Escape. For a long while there, we didn’t even want to play Sly 3.
