init7 recently announced that with their FTTH fiber offering Fiber7, they will now sell and connect you with 25 Gbit/s (Fiber7-X2) or 10 Gbit/s (Fiber7-X) fiber optics, if you want more than 1 Gbit/s. While this offer will only become available at my location late this year (or possibly later due to the supply chain shortage), I already wanted to get the hardware on my end sorted out.
Good luck getting an ISP to let you push your pipe though. We have 200Mbps on Spectrum but man even downloading 1.2xGB backups to my PC is a pain in the rear.
There are internet nodes (they manage exit nodes to internet) and there are internal nodes which are connected to other internal nodes or internet nodes.
The installation is separated and to be able to put your own wire in the street you only need to ask to your neighboors in most cases or use a parabolic antenna configured as wireless AP to the secondary routers to repeat the signal to other building which also build a similar infraestructure as receiver.
Away from that, here is a right in several companies to be able to replace your main router even in Optic Fiber infraestructure. (You don’t need this for Guifi.net though)
If you were running a media server from home to some of your family and/or friends, you could benefit from this. For example, a single 4k stream can use up to 120Mbps.
And that doesn’t even account for the actual people on the network, or other things running on the server and/or other servers.
No home user ever needs this much. UNLESS we are talking about the ocessional requirements of backing/restoring things.
Even DUAL PROCs dedicated unit rentals are rarely defaulting to 10Gbps options.
