Mr Dutton says the Albanese government should pressure the court “to make sure that they reverse this terrible decision”.

The opposition leader says a coalition government could cut ties with the court if it failed to bow to pressure.

“I don’t rule it out,” he said on Wednesday.

“But I think the pressure at the moment needs to be for like-minded countries that share our values, to stand shoulder-to-shoulder … to make sure that this anti-Semitic stance that they’ve taken does not advance.”

Only a handful of state parties have withdrawn from the court and two of those countries rescinded their withdrawal before it came into effect.

Total fuckwit. You can criticise Labor for not being bold enough in international relations - but the LNP don’t give a shit about International relations, Morrison made that very clear to us and a Dutton government is a very scary prospect. Can’t believe that I actually believed David Littleproud when he said that the Coalition would be moving back to the “sensible center” after the election loss.

It was always obvious that that wouldn’t happen. Logistically, how could it? All their more moderate members lost to even more moderate independents, or to the Greens. There’s no “moderate” remaining in the parliamentary Liberal Party.

    • No, dutton is a calculating and extremely cunning fascist.

He is not stupid, he is not childish, he is a terrifying man who has meticulously climbed the rungs of power in order to manipulate policy in favour of his terrible designs.

Don’t minimise the danger he poses, dumb thugs don’t become leader of the LNP.

        • Seriously we need to be worried. Our system doesn’t concentrate too much power on the PM but the far right faction of the LNP are ascendant within the party right now and Dutton has been clear what his goals are.

You can read his inaugural speech here: https://www.peterdutton.com.au/about/maiden-speech/ and most of his goals are there. He has been continually banging the law and order drum since then despite crime rates continuing to drop and Australia being an astoundingly peaceful society.

If he leads a government they will enthusiastically continue the largely bipartisan assault on our rights to privacy and presumption of innocence. I would anticipate greatly increased rates of militarisation of the police and deeper integration with spy agencies/border farce. This is a man who deployed police to stop people in Melbourne and ask for their damn papers. Do not dismiss the threat he poses to equality and justice.

I’m not sure Dutton wants to pull on this thread. Part of the social contract is that bad people are put away. Now like it or not, BOTH sides here have committed war crimes. You wanna let them get away with it? No worries! So we no longer care about stopping acts of evil and righting wrong?

Jesus you best hope I dont see you at a pedestrian crossing Dutton cause if theres no right or wrong it’s up to my own personal sense of justice, isnt it?

If they had any guts, Labor would use this relentlessly to paint Dutton as “soft on crime”.

That or it’s all just a smokescreen to get out of the court so he can commit even more severe human rights violations against asylum seekers or something?

Definitely. The pressure should be on Australia to join Ireland, Norway and Spain.
