Air defense missiles are supposed to have a proximity fuse, such that the missile destroys the target even if it is not a direct hit. Either the fuse here failed, or the drone was too small of an object to trigger it.
And one would expect the missile to detonate before arriving at the drone. My understanding is that they normally detonate towards the front, to create a sort of shotgun effect.
Still, what a crazy video, you can see the drone wobble from the pressure.
unless missile is very very fast (Mach 3-5 and up) most of fragments go to the sides, or at least that’s how can you make the best use of explosive. both size and weight are quite limited in small SAMs

Still close enough to cause gimbal to stutter for a split of a second, but it’s quite delicate piece of technology and pressure wave from the missile can cause that quite far away. I suppose mavic is a too small target for that system.
Supposedly these things are able to target and hit HIMARs missiles, so a Mavic sized drone shouldn’t be a problem for it.
What Russia say and what Russia do are very different, however.
I’m not an expert by any stretch, but I’d assume that radar signature for a cellphone with propellers is a bit different than a 4 meter long steel sewer pipe packed with explosives.

dji should make this into an ad “Even a russian SAM can’t stop your drone!”
That’s what happens when you promise bountys for destroyed enemy equipment.
Who could have guessed that trying to fix a corrupt system with even more corruption would lead to this?
Right now, the Soviet Captain, a man named Tupolev is removing the safety features on all his weapons.
