Out of all services I run, my wife has as registered user on 3 of them, which are Immich, Nextcloud and Jellyfin. She basically uses only Immich cause it fucking rocks and she loves it!

By diploma, I am a musician. By job, i am a simple electronics production worker.
I got into self-hosting after buying a TV and a car. I really didn’t want to connect TV to the internet, so I decided to use a N100 based miniPC. And I live in a place where car thefts are very common, so I been searching a tool to self-host GPS tracker so I don’t have to pay monthly fee to some Chinese company to know where my car is. That is how I got into self-hosting Traccar. And then Pandora’s box was open.

Wait. Normal people who use chatgpt just for basic questions are paying for it?
Not so far away from my place there is a big mall where at the entrance there is is this guy playing styrian harmonica (I think, but his is smaller size and is 100% not Accordion). He has a speaker that plays backing-track.
I play an instrument and know a thing or two about music. I swear that this guy just keeps playing random chords (more like random notes that doesnt make a valid chord 90% of the time) while backing-track covers him up. He must be quite often playing there as I see him on my random visits to the mall almost every time.
He doesn’t even try to hide his skills, as some fake street musicians sometimes do. I wonder if he gets any money from busking.

As far as I understand, lemmy instances are sort of a community with communities inside. It seems that each isntance has their own like minded userbase. .world has basich mix of everyone due to popularity, .ml holds strong beliefs politically, blahaj.zone is more progressive in gender identity, piefed.social is more mainstream decentralized instance. And of course there are more I didn’t mention.
I am on dbzer0 because I am into selfhosting and sailing the seas. It fits me well. Tied to one instance doesn’t stop me from engaging on other instances except the ones I blacklisted.
Check the instances and their descriptions and find something that fits you.

It is not about illegal. It is more of “under the radar”.
Say, you want to watch a video on youtube but it is geolocked? Start your VPN and BAM! It is not locked anymore.
Want to tip your toes in selfhosting and Arr stack but government is grabbing torrent users by the balls? VPN will cover your back.
Do not like your ISP to log your traffic to sell to marketers? Make them lose their minds not knowing what you do by routing traffic through VPN.
Hate ads on Youtube? Change to Mongolia and you wont have ads on youtube anymore (uBO is actually better for that).
Government wants your ID to visit adult content sites? VPN is on the case!
Also, as a side effect you are less likely to get hacked if you use VPN since all your activity comes from an IP address that is not associated with your device.
Same. I knew what gimp suit was much later after I got introduced to GIMP.

Regardless of them being trans, the cause is almost always bullying. Be it bullying trans, silent guy/gal, nerds, because they speak weird or any other arbitrary reason. It is almost always is bullying. Not a trans problem. Bullying problem. If shooter was trans, it only means that they were bullied. Nobody would come to school with a gun and shoot people who they been spending time having fun.

Not sure what launcher Moto Razr uses, but in case it is a typical AOSP-like launcher that the other models use (I have used moto Z, mot g 5g+, g85) then you might want to keep it. It is fine as is.
Set up Smart Connect if you like its functionality. Enable Quick Share and maybe Smart tag tracking. Check out gestures and customizations in Moto app. Chop for flashlight and twist for fast camera are my favorites. Been using those since the first motorola I had.
As for apps, Firefox with uBO extention, YT music revanced and YT revanced is a must. Maybe set DNS resolver to something like dns.adguard.com to filter out ads. For Lemmy I suggest Thunder. If you use Linux with KDE, KDE Connect is also quite a tool to have. Other ones choose be by taste.

I had met my wife on a dating app in 2021. I wouldn’t recommend it and I am pretty sure she wouldn’t either.
In short, it was just pure luck that we have matched. And it was also incredibly lucky that we had many things in common considering both of our backgrounds. And it is not like same taste in art, media, food. More of experience.
My reason is that even if me and my wife found each other, chances were close to 0. And on the way there we got both hurt many times on these apps. These apps are designed to keep you on the app, not to effectively find a match. They will make you miss good potential matches in favor or less good ones so you keep scrolling and eventually paying for premium.
You really have more chances to find a mate just living out there. Join interest clubs. Attend events. Socialize a bit more. That way your chances are thousand times higher than on these apps.

I’m with you.
Considering that age verification will only be mandatory to browse NSFW content, and that without it you can still join servers and keep calling during gameplay as per usual, my bet is that exodus won’t happen. There is going to be part of people who will verify, and the unverified half either gonna leave or keep using discord just without NSFW.
Reddit exodus, unfortunately, barely had any impact. Bluesky had a good influx of new users, but it didnt kill xitter. Doubt that there anything going to happen with discord.

Are we talking about downmixing? If that is the case, Jellyfin has built in downmixing. Kodi might have something too.

Actually, if it would be possible to somehow ask parents beforehand, it probably would be perfect.
Say, you register an internet connection and sign an email that will receive requests from DNS upon visiting explicit sites. Whenever you visit these sites, you get an email with a “Confirm” button. Let’s say it has 1 hour cooldown before sending request for the same domain again. In case your child dials up pornhub, you have a choice + you know they are trying to access something meant for adults.
As for open access points, they already been using DNS sinkholes and are totally not for NSFW stuff anyway, so all access denied by default.
No ID needed aside of signing up for an internet connection which already requires an ID anyway. Everyone is happy. No idea if it is possible.

Age verification is not mandatory. Unless you want to browse NSFW content. You can ignore age verification and keep browsing adult content somewhere else.
I believe many would not verify themselves, groups that do adult content would lose majority of user base. So they would move somewhere else where I assume their user base would follow.

I use discord to chat and play with friends, many servers have an nsfw channel to share things that you probably don’t want to suddenly be on your phone screen in public
That is the difficult part for people to accept. Your friend chat might be full of adults and you have nothing to worry about when posting this content. But, say we got a major channel with hundreds of people that might or might not be adults. If there are NSFW channels, these children can access them. How to prevent this?
ID verification does not fix the issue, of course. But at the very least it minimizes the damage. As many state, children will find explicit content somewhere else - so why bother? I would argue that letting things stay as they are doesn’t solve the issue at all. Doesn’t even try to regulate it.
Discord has been known to be a gateway for children to explicit content. It also has been known as a place where many children diddlers been hanging around. This always has been an chat/call/video call app. People who miss their friend NSFW chats, can move them outside of the app and keep on using Discord as before without needing to prove their age. Maybe inconvenient, but not the end of the world.

By your logic, we might also remove “Are you 18+?” questions from mainstream porn sites, cause children might not lie and go to a shadier site where it will not ask for their age.
Man. I am not even sure if Discord is better than some shady porn sites. Cause unless you are from another galaxy, you probably heard not so “child friendly” stories about what children been exposed on some lesser known discord channels. Some of the times the content is something you’d struggle to find in open web.
In any case, children would find explicit content anywhere else if they want to. So there is no particular reason to be afraid of ID verification since it doesn’t necessary change that fact.

Not only that, verification is not mandatory. So, unless you frequent some questionable 2 furry goatse 1 cup channels, there is literally nothing to worry about. The rest will gladly verify their age and jerk off to their favorite AI generated porn.
