Between real Apple stores opening and iPhone manufacturing coming to India, I foresee the Indian government becoming waay more accommodating to Apple in the next five years. They aren’t stupid, they know the best way to create the same economic miracle as China is to attract foreign manufacturing, and having Apple as a crown jewel is a great way to start.

So many people are saying “it’s too expensive” and not saying what they would do to make it cheaper. The closest thing I’ve heard is that people would remove the outer screen to save costs but at best that makes it $300 cheaper (and probably not nearly that much). So what would they sacrifice? eye tracking? No, thats the entire control method. Screen resolution? No, thats what makes passthrough usable. Less cameras/sensors? No, thats the only way they can get the tracking to work well enough to not need controllers. If this came out and it was bad, it would be DOA. At least now it’s “amazing! But expensive…”, I’ll take that any day

The WAN show had a pretty good take on this. Valve tried just waiting for developers to port games and it didn’t work, so they had to make proton. It’s going to take Apple hitting the “fuck it, we’ll just do it ourselves” point and developing a full translation layer before gaming on Mac becomes a real possibility.
