Vinyl and LPs - Analogue Music Goodness@lemmy.world•Nine Inch Nails - Things Falling Apart (2000)English
4·3 days agoThanks! I’m really pleased with it. My aim is to get all the albums that were formative for my taste in music on vinyl, and the NIN releases from 1992-2002 are a big part of that.

4·4 days agoYeah fox hunting never stopped. The bastards are still doing it.
Even if this ban goes through I have no confidence it’ll be enforced.

World News@lemmy.ml•The UN has voted 123-3 in favour to condemn the enslavement of Africans and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Something, something, same map.English
71·5 days agoI suggest that there’s no meaningful benefit to be gained by looking backward rather than forward.
Is your stance in any way informed by a privilege you hold?
Because there are a lot of people today who are still disadvantaged by the historic slave trade, who would meaningfully benefit from reparations.
So when you say “no meaningful benefit”, who exactly are you talking about?
Yeah you can. But I was happy enough to stick with Vanadium.
It depends on how you use your phone, but I think the main thing some people miss is contactless payments. Also, some banking apps don’t support GrapheneOS.
I too initially missed Firefox (well, Fennec) but I’ve grown used to Vanadium.
It’s one of the reasons why there are many counting or number systems that are in multiples of 12. It makes it easier to divide things into equal groups of 2, 3 or 4.
Multiples of 12 can be divided by 2, 3 and 4 to yield whole (integer) numbers.

Goth❌Industrial@lemmy.world•This Nine Inch Nails Video Led To An FBI InvestigationEnglish
8·8 days agoWasn’t it the Down In It video that was the subject of an FBI investigation? IIRC for the filming they attached a camera to a weather balloon to create an aerial shot, but the balloon drifted off and came down a few miles away. Someone found the camera, watched the tape in it, and notified the FBI because they thought it was a snuff film.

6·8 days agoTW family hospitalization
I live in a different country from my family. My mother was rushed into hospital the day before I came over to visit.
She’s still in hospital now, and it’s pretty serious. But I’m glad I can be here to visit her and help out the rest of my family.

Python@programming.dev•OpenAI to Acquire Astral (maker of uv, ruff)English
7·11 days agoOpenAI could direct anyone working at Astral to insert whatever they want into uv, ruff or ty, without any regard to the needs or desires of the wider community. Or just drop working on it entirely.
Sure, these tools are open source and can be forked. But to do that successfully you’ll need to replace everything that Astral currently provides these projects: expertise of core contributors, the time they have to actually work on it, and organisational skills to manage these projects.
This isn’t something you can do overnight.

Python@programming.dev•OpenAI to Acquire Astral (maker of uv, ruff)English
9·11 days agoIt’s not gaslighting yourself to be concerned when a company as morally bankrupt as OpenAI becomes the steward of these tools.
I’ve been using KISS Launcher for years and I’m really happy with it. It’s minimal, has enough customization settings to make me happy, and even after 7 years (I think?) I still haven’t come across a launcher that I find more intuitive.

451·12 days agoNot a fan of this news. At all.
I don’t know if this qualifies as emoji search, but FlorisBoard shows autocomplete suggestions for emoji if you type “:” and then the name of an emoji, for example entering “:unamu” shows “😒” as an autocomplete suggestion.
FlorisBoard also looks pretty good (in my opinion).

The album they released before this one, Arcane Rain Fell, is one of my firm favourites.
