I would argue that one can still hate immigrants and also realize that they bring value. Doesn’t Trump employ immigrants at Mar A Lago? They want some here, but they would prefer they speak English because they refuse to learn any other languages. You save money not printing songs in other languages or hiring interpreters, etc.

They would be happy to educate immigrants just enough to ingrain them into our system for labor, but it’s easier if they speak English because it’s quicker education and less money.

I need to reread it as an adult and see if I still feel the same, but there was a ton of relationship building, more on characters like Wedge and Tycho and how they were important to the rebellion and new republic, and the descriptions of the star fighter battles were really good.
