I have a cousin who never heard of Ozzy. I’m sending them 3 songs I think every civilized being should know. My first thought was:

Then I realized they were all from the same album. I really like Bark at the Moon from his solo stuff, but that’s mostly bc the guitar work is so outstanding. I dunno… what’s your favorite Ozzy song?

Funny thing is, this kid was talking so slow that I had to watch the video in 1.5x speed, so the background music sounded like hyperpop and during the fashion part it looked like they were doing these weird breakdance moves.

A decent 5-minute overview, tho frankly you’re better off skimming the wikipedia page. The video mentioned a bunch of French and Italian bands I’d never heard of and should probably check out.

“Backsheesh” means alms, tip, or bribe in that part of the world. in this case its technical legality is questionable, but probably accounted for as a cost of doing business.

In this map the Bosporus is in red and the Dardanelles in yellow, both part of the Ottoman Empire in that era. Varna is on the coastline to the north, just a little bit off that map I think; it’s currently part of Bulgaria which looks like at the time was a constitutional principality, under Ottoman sovereignty but operating independently.
