  • The bill – labeled AB 1720 – would make it illegal to resell a concert, theater, comedy or other live entertainment ticket (sports are not included) at a price higher than face value (the cost of the ticket plus fees from the primary ticketing source) plus 10% for shows taking place in California.

I’ve had to sell a ticket through ticketmaster because we weren’t going to be able to make it to the show. The problem is that I had to sell the ticket at a higher price just to break even with the fees that they add on.

At least with this bill we would still be allowed to sell it without taking a loss, but I wonder how it handles the case for when a ticket has been resold multiple times.

Still I think we really need a law like this if we want to tackle the scalping issue we have.

  • The decision does not apply to every game, instead the courts would have to look at each game to see if loot boxes would be considered gambling or not.

    From the article:

The Supreme Court of Austria has ruled that the loot boxes in the FIFA games do not constitute gambling as they do require some skill.

GamesMarkt reports that the justices in Vienna have decided that the specific game mechanic in FIFA Ultimate Team is not gambling, but they also state that loot boxes can be gambling. To be specific, loot boxes and the games they are part of need to be taken together on this matter.

  • One thing that has helped me is using addy.io for creating aliases for any service/website that I sign up for.

It has made it incredibly easy to switch email services without having to update each and every website I have an account with.

For example, recently I didn’t like the name of the email account I had on proton. So, I created a new account, went to Addy.io, changed the setting for where all my emails get directed to by default, updated the PGP key for encryption and at that point all future emails were being routed to the new email address. I could have just as easily switched over to a different provider.

Proton gets some bonus points because they have a tool that will allow you to export all of your emails as well as reimporting them into another account.
