I watched the show and enjoyed it all the way through, never really got the complaints that it starts slow, but idk maybe I just started watching at the right time. Currently finishing up the first book now and it’s great too!

2·1 month agoIn season 7 not a whole lot happens. Mostly because it doesn’t exist haha. I enjoyed it the whole way through, but I do think the first 3 seasons were the best. Once they went to the new planet and stuff it kinda lost focus. No idea how it relates to the books, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t adapt all the books.

6·1 month agoFinished Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I enjoyed it a lot, but kinda feel like it stumbled a bit towards the end. Maybe it was the rapid changes in POV, or maybe because it suddenly added new POVs in the ending chapters? There is also a lot of unresolved stuff, as it sets up sequels that don’t exist yet. Was still a very enjoyable book though. It was my first Sanderson, and I’ll be checking out some more of his stuff soon. Maybe Mistborn? Taking recommendations on where to go next!
I also finished The Hedge Knight by G.R.R. Martin. Picked it up because of the new HBO show, Preston Jacobs spoke so warmly of the book in his review of the show, and I was so impressed when re-reading A Game of Thrones recently. I was not quite as impressed though, a nice little short story, but I didn’t get that invested. There are just so many names presented in a very short story, and I found I had to backtrack quite a bit to keep track of who these people were. I have the collection of the 3 first Dunk and Egg stories and will keep going through them though.
Portal 2 coop is phenomenal.

5·2 months ago- Currently finishing up Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve been looking to read more Science Fiction, and had heard Brandon was a staple, so I went to the library and picked one of his books almost at random. Turns out it was Fantasy. Still a blast though, I have enjoyed it a lot.
- Earlier this week I also got inspired by the new show and picked up A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I have read A Song of Ice and Fire way back (all that we got at least), but never read any of his other stuff before.
This is kinda part of a new shift to “go back” to reading more fantasy and science fiction again. The last years I have mostly read contemporary stuff and non-fiction. Over Christmas I read both Children of Time (very good, but not quite as captivated as many others) and I re-read A Game of Thrones (even better than I remembered it), and it has kinda rekindled my love for reading.

Gnome@discuss.tchncs.de•Which feature do you wish that GNOME would have by default?English
41·2 months agoI have wondered what percentage of Gnome users use either dash to dock or dash to panel. At this point I think they should both be options in the stock settings app.
Absolute insane decision to me. Yes, they haven’t looked great, but they are top 8 in CL and only 4 points behind in La Liga. It wouldn’t be the first time Real looks underwhelming in the first half of the season before stepping up on the second half.

22·2 months agoI kinda liked the ending, but unfortunately I was thoroughly bored through most of the season. There are just too many characters, the pace constantly stops to fit in a heart-to-heart that doesn’t affect the overall plot at all, and they are all immune to death and any other kind of lasting consequences. So many times I found myself rolling my eyes as the characters stop to have a chat about their feelings in the face of impending doom, but it always turns out great anyway, so I guess they know better than me. I wanted to like it because I really liked season 4, but this felt like a huge step down. There are so many plot holes and inconsistencies, which may not break the show, but it’s weird how it seems like the writers haven’t watched their own show sometimes. It’s not the worst thing ever though, there are some good moments here and there, and I’m happy it got an at least decent ending.

Gaming@beehaw.org•"Fewer people are playing Call of Duty this year than they have been before" Why has Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 seemingly sold below expectations? Is it simply not good enough? [Eurogamer]
11·3 months agoI don’t think the quality of Black Ops 7 itself has affected the sales a lot honestly. Of course, if the game was sensationally good, there would be a lot of hype and people will get it, but my impression is that a game being bad generally doesn’t stop a game from reaching their sales targets. What you see what CoD and some other big franchises is the effect studios gradually ruining their reputation over many years by consistently releasing subpar products. They are now seeing the consequences of their extreme focus on maximizing the profit from each game, but to be completely honest, it was probably totally worth it from a financial standpoint even if upcoming games flop completely.

I’m so baffled by the Mbappe no-penalty/no yellow card for diving call. What did the ref see that made him give Athletic a freekick but no yellow card for the turtle?

4·3 months agoThat’s funny, I loved the puzzles, but dropped it because the combat didn’t click for me.
Probably nothing, as I’m already kinda busy juggling Silksong and Hades 2 with the occasional Starvaders and Splatoon 3 session. I might end up just getting Cuphead for later though, and would maybe have considered God of War or Spiderman if there weren’t so many other great games to play.
For people who haven’t played it, Ori and the Will or the Wisps is a great buy at 75% off. Probably my favorite metroidvania if you don’t count Tunic as a metroidvania.
The Newcastle press is crazy wtf

I finished the three Dunk and Egg novels by G.R.R Martin. Overall I found them pretty good, but I was not as impressed as many other seem to be. Some nice little tales, but after re-reading A Game of Thrones recently I had kinda hoped for more. I did like the third book, The Myster Knight, a lot more though, so it did seem to ramp up a bit, and it is a shame he stopped writing them.
Currently finishing up Leviathan Wakes by James Corey (The Expanse #1). Great book, watched the show many years ago and really liked that too, but thankfully there is a lot of the plot I don’t remember anymore.
Afterwards I’ll continue reading the next Expanse book, or maybe continue my A song of ice and fire re-read with A Clash of Kings, not quite sure yet. I am not really a binger, prefer to spread them out a bit. Also wanted to check out the Mistborn series by Brandon Sandersson, but maybe I’ll wait a bit before I start.
