Ahh okay. I do enjoy writing programs myself where I can so I’ll probably still do it myself, but good to have options. Since it’s just the MC server I’m truly worried about, I don’t care too much about the performance within reason. I like the idea of a text file with corresponding hashes. Keep it simple! Or as my old shop teacher used to say, KISS, keep it simple, stupid.

Hashing! Why didn’t I think of that when I created the original backup script haha. Low key might go write a new backup script and incorporate that. I’m running another private mc server for some friends, this time in the cloud cause I didn’t want to deal with another crash. I would like to bring it back to running in my garage sometime.

That’s definitely where I went wrong. The sad part is I did make an effort to backup the mc server weekly. I had a cron job that would bring the minecraft server down, export the SQL db’s for plugins, and copy the world / other config files into a tar.gz file and copy it to a hard drive raid also running on the server. I knew having raid wasn’t a backup in itself, and also running it on the same server wasn’t doing me any favors. The problem was the archive files were incomplete, but I didn’t realize that until the SSD died and I went to restore the archive file. Still not really sure why they weren’t complete archive files. I still have them, just can’t open them. It’s weird though, when I first set it up they totally worked.
I did that in my garage a few years back to tinker around with linux servers. Just don’t make the same mistake I did and buy the cheapest SSD on eBay. My friend group still hasn’t forgiven me for letting our minecraft server get corrupted lol.
That’s great to hear! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the federation concept itself so if you don’t mind, I have a question for you. In the event the site did go under (which it seems like is not the case, yay!) what happens to our account? Will we have to create a new account on another instance? If so, will we be able to use the same username?
This past march madness I had the least going on in my life and was able to sit down most nights and watch a few games. Most fun I’ve had watching college basketball on tv. Makes me want to watch more college basketball / football games. Do you have any recommendations on which matchups to look for? I love a blowout win when my alma mater is playing, but usually were the team getting blown out haha. When watching as a neutral fan I like to find games that have close scores, but that’s hard to do unless you start half way through the game ya know? The few times I have had time to sit down and watch a college football game I always end up picking the game that is completely lopsided, but I would love to get into it!
Hey I appreciate that! My friends give me crap for being a Brady fan rather than a Patriots fan, but hey how can I not be a fan of the greatest haha.
It truly feels like the changing of the guards with Brady, Brees, Big Ben, etc, all retiring and Rodgers moving on from the Pack. But your raise a good point about not setting major expectations for Love, were getting to see so many new things with the old greats retiring. I’m looking forward to getting to enjoy the games and not setting “Super Bowl or bust” expectations haha. Here’s to a fun and exciting season!

Would like to get optional post notifications for communities I’m subscribed to. In addition, notifications for comments from a thread I’m participating in and new comments on posts I create would be fantastic!
Looking at the GitHub page I see an issue for it from Dec '22. Also read your very busy with other lemmy tasks so totally understand it’s low priority. I haven’t done much app development before but a software dev by trade. I can’t commit to anything, but if I were to sink a few days into adding notifications, are you open to collaborating on a PR? Also curious if there’s a path forward for notifications you might have in the back of your head.

Haha, I discovered him during Covid. I logged into Pandora one day and found some very old channels(?) I had created. Something Corporate came on and I was hooked!
I don’t know, but I’m hoping this takes off! I joined yesterday after reading the news about RIF.
Spotify started playing Something Corporate for me this morning. Love that band and the other projects Andrew McMahon has fronted!
Lol I miss Eclipse, gosh and PHP. I still have Eclipse pinned to my task bar on my laptop for old times sake. Moved to Jetbrains years ago after initially holding onto Eclipse, but after using it for a few months I couldn’t deny Jetbrains was better anymore and made the leap.
