Feudal serfdom aka Company Towns. Conservatives would LOVE for us to return to that. You get paid in company Disney bucks that can only be used at the company store. You’ll live in company dorms, go to company schools and when you die, you’ll be buried in the company graveyard.

Slavery never went away in this country. It just became more profitable.

The key to happiness is low expectations. And if you’re not happy, just keep lowering them.

I stumbled on a reel yesterday telling people to buy bread at the bakery as the supermarket bread is bad.

That shit costs 3 times as much for a single loaf, wtf do you want me to eat for the remaining 3 weeks of the month then? Do i just power through them on an empty stomach?

First of all, don’t watch reels. Second of all, it’s getting cheaper to just bake bread with flour, water, and yeast. Even when you include your time.

This is the end result of out-of-control inflation. Now they sell some crappy cookies at the supermarket for like $1 dollar each. A cookie at a bakery is $3 to $6 for one! Baking your own costs $30. That will make at least 4 dozen and taste better than most others. You can watch TV while doing it!

This is the real way to say “fuck em”. Make your own bread and you can do it easier and cheaper.

I suspect it would be the duration between one tax collector visit and the next.

The problem is that “time off” isn’t the problem - it’s that even if you worked yourself to the very bone (and they did), it is never enough to feed the insatiable appetites of the rich. Who don’t even “need” anymore than they already have, so much as they just want to thrust their “authority” into the faces of the Poors.

Plus all the other middle managers in-between the top and all the way to the bottom. See e.g. prima nocta, which actually may not have been a thing, in the sense that it wasn’t just the “first night” that a lord could do it - I believe that only lords had any “rights” of any kind, at all, ever, so if a lord ever did that (caveat: to one of his OWN peasants), the victim would not have any legal recourse to fall back upon.

But crops and animals may not need as much tender care EVERY day, so even peasants got holidays off sometimes, which helped keep the workforce compliant and healthier to be able to provide more goods & services to the wealthy.

Less than is commonly claimed on the internet. Much less.
