I honestly don’t understand how some of my posts get downvotes. I try to imagine the thought process, and I can’t come up with anything rational.

Oh no. Every downvote fuels me to post more, out of spite.

It’s as if these people imagine that weebs will go away if they just disapprove hard enough, as if otaku culture wasn’t way, WAY, WAY beyond critical mass by now.

Don’t think too hard on it. A lot of times there is no logic to it. I mean personally here are some reasons I’ve downvoted things before that didn’t deserve it:

There’s a typo in the title

I’m in a bad mood and start downvoting things that annoy me without looking at them.

I’ve seen the same thing posted in my feed like 10 times with different titles and I’m sick of it, so I just start downvoting them.

I’m bored, and my feed is full of uninteresting crap that I currently don’t care about, so downvotes for everyone.

I wrote a really long comment, but between switching between apps on my phone while typing it, I accidentally closed lemmy and lost the comment. So I downvoted the post in frustration.

Fell asleep while scrolling, woke up to see a random post or two was downvoted, didn’t bother to fix it. (I’ve done the same with up votes too)

One of my 2 year old twins takes my phone off the table and starts randomly tapping, slapping, and scrolling through lemmy. (Sometimes the language get changed too, or worse dark theme gets turned off)

Point is downvotes mean nothing, don’t worry about them.

You made a list of all the irrational things I can think of.

I’m not the type to take offence, it’s just utterly confusing.

This post got two downvotes almost immediately. That happens a lot, and while the post usually recovers, sometimes it doesn’t. When that happens I just delete the original post and post it again.

I just image these people who don’t want weebs on the fediverse, and engage in this futile exercise of burying content when it is new, as if that’s the better option compared to blocking the content types they don’t want to see.
