I like this. It kind of reminds me of Enigma from back in the 90’s, with the mix of synths, drum machines and classical elements in a dancy new-agey result.
That being said, I feel like the drums lack some punch, and there could be a bit more diversity. Perhaps another instrument could be introduced eventually, or a more interesting bassline (was there even any bass? I didn’t notice it that much) could enhance the track a lot. It’s a fun idea, though!
Thank you very much! I am not good with drums. Pretty much I use something from the synth (Yamaha MODX6) and go from there. Perhaps I should have added a bass on Ardour where I do my post-processing. Also, I know that my mastering skills are simply non-existent! But yes, a bassline is something that I should have worked on. Very good point.
One quick production tip I learned is to side-chain a gate after some white noise for the snares, and after a 40-50Hz tone generator for the kick with the trigger signal being the respective drum. That helps make the drums feel fuller without having to layer samples upon samples of drums. It does take a few tries to get the drums sounding fat and punchy for sure, so no worries about that!
The track is fun as it is anyway!
That was a bit advanced for me! I had to watch a youtube video to understand side-chaining. Thank you again very much. I will try to use this, although it seems that it will take some time for me to understand it.
