That gives me heartburn.
I get strange ideas whenever there are WSL news on tech websites. WASAPI backend for Pulseaudio is the most realistic one to date :\
It is not that it surprises me that there will be a new version of Windows, it is normal that there is it with any OS, right now within the W10 there are several versions (from S to Pro). Before yesterday I lost 7 minutes of my time, updating from version 1909 to 20H2. What worries me the most is that MS makes its plans to prevent software from being installed outside the MS Store, I hope not.
Didn’t they also say that for Windows 10X, which they just announced was going to be merged into Windows 10…? Or is that what this is referring to and this “next generation” isn’t planned as some sort of Windows 11?
Heck if I know. Following Windows development gives me a headache.
Yeah, fair enough. I mostly just like to giggle about their ridiculous version names and when they introduce yet another “revolutionary” change which turns out to just be yet another new look and feel on top of what’s essentially still the same OS that they already had decades ago.
The best feature is… WINE won’t work anymore!
ReactOS will be further away from beta
ReactOS remains one of the most beloved insider jokes in MS
Highly alarmed. After my last Win update just recently, Cortana was sneakily reactivated. Also, one app installed via MS Store doesn’t start anymore, probably because I haven’t logged in for a while. Very suspicious indeed…
WPD is your friend
No source code no party. I can’t find anything, is it closed-source?
It’s freeware and standalone, there is no good and secure FOSS alternative (risky if you don’t know what you do), all other, like ShutUp10 or Pegasun System Utilites, are closed source. Alternatively you only can activate the GodMode in Windows, to reach all the needed settings, but this is less secure (Dragons in some of this settings, if you don’t exactly know what you do). Definitly WPD is the best and most secure option.
FOSS is prefered for several reasons, but it isn`t sinonym of privacy or security, in this points it isn’t better or worse as any other soft. Also BigTech companies, like Google, Facebook, MS, Amazon and include NASA develop FOSS, Google, Facebook and Amazon APIs are present in a lot of other FOSS. Privacy? ehhmm, often better in this point a freeware from a single developer or small company.
I don’t want to have to update to a whole new OS. I thought Windows 10 was supposed to be continuously updated
And this does, until a message appears to you in a few years, that your version of Windows will no longer be supported, as it happened with the W7 .
Windows 7 still gets updates
Windows 20
I guess the CEO is talking about Linux, maybe Windows will become a GNU/Linux Distro.
I think rather that Linux distros are going to be closer to Windows than the other way around, Q4OS is already a good example of this. As much as Windows fails in privacy (although it can be remedied), in terms of handling, compatibility and security, it can teach Linux a lot, apart from having the largest FOSS catalog than any other.
