I blame shitty sitcoms. If you really look at them, most people are terrible to each other.
Hey Ross, why don’t you marry it? Hurr durr! Science nerdy! Dinosaur bones dumb! How you doin’?
Full disclosure, I enjoyed Friends a lot back in the day, but I’m rewatching it now, and his friends are pretty terrible towards him, especially for things that are actually quite impressive, like being a doctor of paleontology in his mid 20’s.
Yeah but Ross is also a huge creep. They all kinda suck tbh
How was Ross a creep? He was a good father, a caring husband (to Carol), and a pretty decent guy all around. He was just a little socially awkward.
Very controlling and possessive towards women. Also he’s the best character as he’s clearly the most insane.
That’s Monica by a country mile. She turned into a cunt.
Controlling how? Controlling like “I don’t want you spending all your time with Mark, who is clearly trying to fuck you, who you are also attracted to”? I think that’s a perfectly reasonable request in a committed, monogamous relationship. The fact that Mark asked her out as soon as she was single, and the fact that she was considering it, proved that all of Ross’ concerns were valid.
He’s perfectly sane at the beginning of the show, but they heavily flanderize him in the later seasons, turning him neurotic.
Who cares if his means are justified, he’s still ordering her to do things because he sees her as belonging to him. He’s also super-possessive over Monica (e.g. always saying “my sister” to Chandler), I guess it’s meant to be the “protective older brother” trope but it’s still not good.
These are cartoonish sitcom characters though, I hope people don’t expect them to behave like real humans!
You and your PHD you fucking nerd
My friends and I talk about it like this: that would be hilarious on tv, shitty in real life. Sometimes there’s a shitty situation you can find humor in it, but that doesn’t mean you should make a shitty-but-funny situation happen just for the comedy
I once made a “your mom” quip to a friend like less than a month after their mom very suddenly passed away.
Can’t really put into words how I felt the moment that came out of my mouth.
This is like the mountain biking principle, but in your subconscious regarding conversation.
In mountain biking, it’s said that if you want to avoid a rock, don’t look at it. Look where you want to go.
If you look at the rock, you are much more.likely to subconsciously steer the bike right into it.
Your mind probably knew about it, and was trying not to bring it up. But therefore you were thinking about it a lot, and what comes up? A mom joke.
Honestly, I think you’re completely right. And just as bad of a crash, too.
That’s called “target fixation.”
That’s the one yep
Ooof, that’s like me levels of unintentional thoughtlessness.
:( poor buddy
Yeah I pulled a Simpsons quote outta the bag once:
I’m gonna corpse you up, and mail you to momma!
His mom was dead. 🦶➡️👄
I’ve been in the “receiving” position when I was a teenager, just couple days after mum died. Man that hurt, but I’m happy to know the guy died in a car accident before turning 18
I should mention that it was 1000% an accident on my part.
I should also mention that that’s a really dark way to view a human life. Even if they had said it to be cruel, they were clearly young enough that they could’ve turned a new leaf.
In case anyone, like me, was drawn in by the painting itself:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_the_Terrible_and_His_Son_Ivan
I wrote an essay on this painting for either an art history class or an anthropology class (I don’t remember exactly which) because of how much I love it. Got a good mark for it too!
Tell me something cool about it
“Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan” by Ilya Repin is a powerful and haunting painting. It depicts a moment of horror: Tsar Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible) cradling his dying son, whom he has just struck and mortally wounded in a fit of rage. The painting is renowned for its emotional intensity and fine detail, particularly in the expressions of agony and madness on Ivan’s face and the lifeless gaze of his son. Completed in 1885, this work is a prime example of Russian realist painting, reflecting Repin’s skill in portraying dramatic, historical scenes. Interestingly, the painting has been attacked and damaged twice, in 1913 and 2018, due to its controversial portrayal of Russian history, but it has been carefully restored each time.

It’s an incredible painting
thanks, absolutely stunning! and it‘s 2.5 by 2m large, how I‘d love to view it in person!!!
I put this in my group chat and said I bet you all feel like this a lot.
Aw man I did this to my best friend in front of the whole class in Jr High. I felt so terrible.
All i can tell you guys is to tell your friends if they insulted you. My friends always thought i am in on the joke if they made fun of my male pattern hair loss. I shaved that my hair, knowing that i have the genes of my dad, to dodge jokes and humiliation. Little did i know that it simply brought about the jokes two to four years early. Fuck. That. Shit. After i told them to stop that shit because its insulting they strangely did. Weird how communication can actually solve a lot of fuckery.
It’s always mean.
It’s a true tragedy, it always feels bad
Jez, it’s about Nancy. She… sucked me off.
